'Big Picture': You Need A Plan

A quick look around the internet will reveal a profound number of 'Get Rich Quick' opportunities. Many people jump from opportunity to opportunity hoping that it will be the 'one' that provides instant wealth. These people are not entrepreneurs. They are looking for a quick, something for nothing, solution to making a pile of money online. Well, that doesn't work for the vast majority of people out there. I won't say that it doesn't happen. We've all read about the guy, or the woman, who made $50,000 in 90 days online starting with nothing. I guess that it is possible but not highly probable. Making money online is a business and it should be treated as such.
Any business that wants to increase its chance of success needs to have a plan. I am not talking about writing a long, detailed plan filled with financial reports and market research data. I am talking about a well thought out business plan that you can use as a tool to help your business grow and reach your long-term goals. A business without a plan is setting itself up for failure. Without a plan how do you know what to do tomorrow, or the next day? Or even a month from now? Are you just going to react to circumstance? I challenge you to be proactive in your business from the start. Make a plan, set goals and follow through with them and you will achieve success.
Your business plan doesn't have to be difficult, don't make it such an overwhelming task that you put it off until tomorrow... Make it simple. Write down where you want to be in a year, then five years. Plain english and be specific. Where do you want to live? How do you spend your days? Where do you want to travel? What kind of car do you want to drive? How much money do you want in the bank? The more specific the better. This will create the 'Big Picture'.
The 'Big Picture' is fun: financial security, a new car, traveling to exciting places, and spending more quality time with your family. These are all obtainable goals, only you need to take it a few steps further. First, you need to break it down into bite size, managable chunks. Take a closer look at what steps you need to take every month to achieve these results? Layout the steps month-by-month. Again be specific. Now you have a one year outline for your planned success.
The monthly outline is good and much more specific than the 'Big Picture', but to maximize your chances for success and increase your efficiency, the plan needs more. Go ahead and break up each month into weekly goals. What do you need to accomplish each week to reach your monthly objectives? Write it down. You will be far more likely to follow it and reach your 'Big Picture' if you write it down. Do this every week. If you don't write it down the 'Big Picture' is just a dream.
Keep your business plan somewhere close at hand and refer to it daily. I suggest starting every day reviewing your plan so that you can layout your tasks for that day. Your daily tasks are very important. They will keep you focused and prevent time wasters from creeping into your day. How many times do you check your email or catch yourself surfing when you have other more important things to do?
You need to view your business plan as an opportunity to learn and understand your business. It will help you identify any obstacles you may encounter and allow you to find a way to succeed. You will find yourself being proactive and not just reacting to situations as they arise. Your plan will also save you money and time by focusing your attention on building your business toward your long-term goals.
