Fruit Mangosteen - In Search of the Fountain of Youth

By Robert Kron

Since the beginning of time man has tried to hold back the aging process. He (and she) strive to find the perpetual fountain of youth, that one "thing" to keep one age-less - to try to keep the hands of time from turning.

While the claim to having found any fountain has never been fully established, the fruit of the mangosteen, a tropical evergreen tree holds the prodigious respect of the natives of Southeast Asia. Believed to have originated in the Sunda Islands and the Moluccas, this southeast asia tree produces a hard, reddish-brown fruit with a sweet, juicy, very pale (almost fleshy) inner pulp. This edible portion of the mangosteen is often referred to as the "Queen of Fruits."

In man's quest for the eternal fountain of youth, he (and she) often turn to antiaging antioxidants. If that is your quest, you just may have hit that pot of gold with the fruit mangosteen!

Possessing potent antioxidant properties, mangosteen helps to maintain intestinal health while strengthening the immune system. In addition, it neutralizes free radicals, supports cartilage and joint function, and promotes a more healthy respiratory system.

Fountain of youth... indeed!

But the marvel of the fruit mangosteen doesn't stop there. The rind has been used for hundreds of years by southeast asian cultures to treat infections, control fever, and reduce pain. In fact, it is used to treat a wide variety of ailments. The mangosteen is used extensively throughout India and China.

Should you find yourself vacationing in this portion of the world, and have the unfortunate displeasure of contracting dysentery, all you need do is head for (or send someone to) the nearest supplier of mangosteen fruit!

If eczema or various skin disorders are your plague, again the mangosteen is highly priced for its medicinal value.

In our wild search for ways to keep our youth and/or youthful appearance, one would do well to consider the health benefits of the fruit of the mangosteen!
