When your teen's runaway ….

Every day between 1.3 and 2.8 million runaway and homeless youth live on the streets of America. One out of every seven children will run away from home before the age of 18.

If your teen has threatened to run away, don't hesitate to talk to her about it. Inform your son or daughter that running away is not as glamorous as it sounds. Let them know living day-to-day on the streets with no legal form of income, no food and only the clothes on their back is not only dangerous, it can be deadly. If your teen is having problems, make sure you let them know how much you love them and that together you can work through the problem(s) and running away is never the solution.

BASIC TRUTHS ABOUT TEENAGERS WHO RUN AWAY

Teens who run away are not bad
They made the bad decision to run. We need to teach them ways of facing and solving problems, even when they believe we are their problem.
Most teens know of a teen that has run away
This can lead to romantic ideas of life on the streets considering most teens glamorize the experience.
Parents cannot lock teenagers in
Teens can choose to walk out the door against your wishes.
Parents of teens who run away are not bad parents
Parents are also under a lot of pressure.

There are numbers of reasons which may help you to understand that why teen's runaway .The teen may feel like they have to escape and get away from home to avoid something bad from happening. For example, maybe you have been fighting a lot and they feel they just can't go through it again. They may be afraid you will be mad at them for something they did wrong or rules they disobeyed, or they may feel like you won't forgive them so they have to leave.

Some teens will hint that they want to run away and some will outright threaten their family with running. Sometimes their family will hear rumors through friends, school, or other parents that their child is thinking of leaving home.It is important to confront your suspicions right away. Clearly and calmly let your teen know you are concerned about them and their behavior makes you afraid they might run away from home.

Unfortunately we can't completely prevent teens from running away, but here are a few suggestions that may help. Try showing your teen respect and keep communication open, listening to what they have to say. Don't scream and yell, or threaten your teen, this will only make them want to leave more. Invite them to talk with you or someone else about what is troubling them and be supportive of finding positive ways of dealing with their stress. Try not to interrupt your teenager when they do come to you to talk, sometimes it helps the most to just listen. If you don't agree with your child at least listen to their side, then calmly give your side, if things start to get out of control, take a break. Let them know you don't want them to run away and you're committed to helping the family work things out.

If you feel your child may runaway you can seek professional help with counseling, or just try talking to them and explain how much you love them, and that you will always be there for them.Some of the professionalists are given below.
