Diana believed that she had always taken good care of her teeth. She brushed twice a day and flossed two to three times a week. At the back of her mind, she knew that she could improve the care of her teeth and gums, but still she did not change her routine. Two years ago, what started as general discomfort in her gums turned into a nagging pain that would not subside. Unable to endure it any longer, Diana made an appointment with her dentist whom she had not seen in close to four years. After a brief examination, Diana learned that she had a dental abscess. The problem was soon fixed, but due to her failure to practice an effective daily dental care routine, she was forced to pay a large sum of money to remedy a situation that could have been avoided.
Diana’s story is not uncommon. Many Canadians who do not have dental coverage tell themselves that if there is no pain, there is no problem. Sadly, this is quite often untrue. There are many dental problems that can occur with little or no warning. In order to make the right decision, spend some time considering all factors, including whatever insurance you may already have, and how much you would like to spend. Choose to take care of your teeth for life and adopt a dental plan that gives you peace of mind.
