Sleeping in the Lap of Luxury

By Katie Curtis

Wow! There is nothing like a sleeping in luxury bed sheets! I was recently on a business trip to New York, and the boutique hotel where I stayed had the nicest bedding I have ever had the pleasure to roll around in. I couldn't help but glance at the label, because I immediately knew I wanted some of my very own.

They were using linens from the famed Frette brand. This Italian company has been in the bedding business for a great many years. They supply the finest hotels, luxury ocean liners, and first-class trains with their luxurious bedding. Frette uses French and Italian linens and Egyptian and Swiss cottons to fashion their first-class bed linens for people who expect the best.

I have stayed in many hotels over the years, and I have made a bit of a game out of checking the labels on the bed linens. It sounds crazy, I know. Speaking of Italian companies, I would also highly recommend Bellino Fine Linens. Their incredible damask patterned sheets have beautiful embroidery, hemstitched borders, and jacquard motifs. Although they sell very little direct to consumers, you can find their products in many fine department stores.

I would say my next favorite in the world of luxury bedding comes from an American company called Anichini. They are based out of Vermont, and make possibly the finest linens in America. Anichini prides itself on producing the finest cotton, cashmere, and silk fabrics from around the world, fabricated into shawls, throws, upholstery, pillows, curtains, bedskirts, table linens, and bed linens. All of their products are handmade, and it shows. I love this company!

My friends and family have been aware of my obsession with luxury bedding for some time now. Every so often I receive some fine bed linens as a gift. The last gift of this sort I received was from my sister, for my birthday. She gave me a set of sheets from Yves Delorme. They are a very old French company, founded back in 1845. Their luxurious bedding line is made of long-staple Egyptian cotton. The cotton is woven in jacquards and generously embroidered. They are so inviting and luxurious.

All this talk of luxury bedding is making me sleepy (excuses, excuses). I guess I will just take my cashmere blanket, and be off to bed. This is by far my favorite part of the day. Good night and sweet dreams all!
