Satellite TV Improvements in Technology

By David Johnson

Cable TV and Satellite TV solutions remain hugely competitive, and big discounts can be had because of this. Technology is also making satellite tv more achievable for everyone world wide. You should consider the improved technology that satellite tv offers, and what exactly it can do for you.

Overall, satellite has come a long way. There was a point in time when the sheer size of a getting a satellite dish for your home detracted anyone from getting it. The size of these dishes back then were about the size of two picnic umbrellas, so you can see why many people didn't want to have this attached to their home. Satellite dishes are also much smaller these days, with a size of about 18 inches (maximum) across. The dishes can be mounted pretty much anywhere, so this naturally makes it a much better option than it once was.

Satellite systems in the past also gave viewers the ability to see odd things, such as live feeds between broadcast stations as well as certain off-camera moments, specifically during commercial breaks; which broadcasters didn't want watched by typical viewers. However, with the advancement in satellite TV techonology, you won't have to worry about these problems much anymore. Normal programs are now broadcasted, since what's being aired is under quality control.

How does it all work? Feed horn and concaved dish-shaped reflectors are the two major components of satellite dishes. Feed horn of the satellite dish is mounted on one part (arm) of the dish and sticks out from the satellite dish. A box is positioned in your room to receive the signals through feed horn. Receiving the signals from satellite and feeding it to the satellite receiver (box) is the main function of feed horn. Modern satellite dish may have a number of feed horns to facilitate receiving signals from number of satellites and for clearly focusing the collected signals on one of the multiple feed horns. The Low-Noise Block down (LNB) converter is positioned in the feed horn to provide clear signals. The LNB designed in the feed horn amplifies the signals (collected from satellite provider) and filter these signals to make is noise free. It removes the signal that doesn't carry the satellite program of the provider. The reflector is considered as part of antenna which captures and focuses the signal towards feed horn.

Most of the satellite providers use wireless technology for sending their signals, which is also the case when it comes to broadcast TV. The main difference between broadcast TV and satellite TV is that broadcast TV providers send their signals through land-based antenna whereas satellite TV providers transmit their signals through the air. You must position the broadcast TV antenna in a position that the antenna is in a straight line from the antenna of the broadcaster, if you are using broadcast television.

You must consider the above factors before deciding to obtain a satellite TV. Clearly, satellite TV remains the better option.
