The BMW 5 Series Experience

By Correy Putton

Leading manufacturer of luxury vehicles has struck again. BMW is continuing its quest for excellence and it has released, in addition to their 5 series, the new BMW 550i. It may not be the flashiest wheels in the place but it is very convenient and comfortable for both drivers and passengers. Its rear seats may not fold down to accommodate extra luggage but it has a big 14 cubic foot trunk large enough to hold whatever baggage you may bring on an excursion.

Convenience in terms of stowing baggage is not the only thing this BMW model brings to the table. Performance-wise, this car has got what it takes to get you where you want to go fast. Powered by a 4.8 liter V8 engine which can generate up to 360 horsepower at 7750 revs per minute and 360 lb.ft of torque at 6100 rpm, this car delivers the goods in terms of engine performance and power. All these powers are transferred to the wheels through a 6 speed manual transmission and a variety of high performance BMW parts. With that transmission on board, the 550i gives the driver effortless gear shifting. This may not come as a surprise because it is a BMW, right?

With all those power packed into its engine, vibration and noise is not a problem. The car is very comfortable not only for the driver but for the passengers as well. But the driver seat is one of a kind; the seat itself would make any driver not want to get off anymore. The seat has an adjustable thigh and side support, adjustable head restraint and a good lumbar support to keep the drivers' lower back from hurting during long drives. The passenger seats are made up of plush leather and its legroom and headroom is noticeably better than other cars with the size such as the 550i. With seats such as these. your passengers may not want the ride to stop for a long time. The company has given the users what they would surely need on long trips and this may be the biggest achievement of the 550i.

In addition to that, it also carries on its plush instrument panel a tachometer and the speedometer. The car uses the iDrive technology developed by BMW giving the driver or the co-driver the convenience to control audio, navigation, HVAC and vehicle readouts, aside from the tachometer and the speedometer, with just a joystick. While the iDrive may need some to getting used to, once you get the hang of it or you have a co-driver versed on using the technology, you can use the joystick to its full potential.
