Ford Unveils Three Concept Vehicles, F-Series Super Duty Pickup at the 2007 NAIAS

By Correy Putton

Ford Motor Company maker of high quality Lincoln parts has presented a total of three concept vehicles at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The three concept cars introduced were the Ford Interceptor, the Ford Airstream and the Lincoln MKR, all exemplifying the three major future styling directions that the company is heading to.

It was J Mays, Group Vice President of Design and Chief Creative Officer that has taken the responsibility of describing the Interceptor during the Auto Show. He described the Interceptor as "Modern American Muscle." He further said, "We translated the design language of last year's Ford F-250 Super Chief concept right onto this car, complete with an integrated three-bar grille. Inside, Interceptor is minimalist but sleek, and it's all business."

The Airstream with its futuristic design is a product of the partnership between Ford and RV. The Airstream concept exemplifies Ford's commitment to lead in the growing crossover segment. Mays also stated, "The same consumer demographic changes that are making crossovers so popular are creating huge demand for recreational vehicles as well. This concept draws inspiration from several sources -- obviously Airstream's iconic design language -- but also Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece film 2001: A Space Odyssey, and some of the world's most sophisticated powertrain technology."

Aside from J Mays, another Ford Executive has joined in introducing the Lincoln MKR concept and it's in the person of Peter Horbury, Executive Director of Design, North America. Horbury described the Lincoln MKR concept as a four-door coupe which he claims greatly reflects the all new design strategy that Ford is employing for its Lincoln lines of vehicles. According to him, "The MKR Concept have stance and profile are more sporting than stately. It has a dynamic, sloping belt line with a beveled edge, a strong C-pillar and an elegant rear that falls away like the train of an evening gown. Most of these cues are inspired by iconic Lincolns of the past. This car looks thoroughly Lincoln and very modern."

Aside from the three concept vehicles, Mark Fields, Ford President for the Americas has also offered reporters the chance to view the 2008 F-Series Super Duty and saying that the F-Series reflects Ford's commitment to remain as one of America's leading truck company.

In a statement Fields said, "Thirty years of F-Series leadership is just the beginning. While the competition has been furiously benchmarking us, we've been inventing the future trucks that continue raising the bar. The new Super Duty, which is all new for 2008, is our most capable pickup ever. This truck is literally unstoppable."
