Ford, Slashing Explorer's Production

By Joe Ratzkin

Ford Motor Co. is one of the automakers that has been greatly affected by the shift in preference of auto enthusiasts. If at all the automaker wants to recover from its losses and eventually save its depleting image, sure and swift strategies must be employed. Also, critics in the auto industry are recommending a striking lineup launch that is composed of sophisticated, high-performing and stylish vehicles. To do this, for has to sacrifice other aspects like production of other models. According to Ford, the production of Explorer will be slashed next year to cost cut and accommodate positive changes.

Auto industry statistics reveal that Ford suffered heavy losses this year. This circumstance resulted to plant closures and job cuts. These were the evasive strategies that Ford utilized in order to slash the production cost. According to some analysts, it is now an old hearsay that the automaker will be closing several production facilities. It has happened and is expected to continue so as to alleviate the financial prowess of the automaker.

Lately, another disclosure from the automaker was made public. This is about slashing of the production of the Explorer sports utility vehicle next year. Further, the employees from Ford's Louisville, Kentucky plant have received letter from the managers of the plant disclosing job cuts in connection with slowing the production of Ford Explorer. The letters did not mention the number of employees that will be affected by job cuts nonetheless; it disclosed that the employees would get 4 opportunities to abscond the company.

The Kentucky plant is responsible for the assembly of Ford car parts for Explorer. Ford Explorer proved to be a lasting best-seller. However, due to the depleting image and protruding losses of the automaker, even the might of Explorer could not do any good. The car's sales also lowered because of the stiff competition in the SUV segment. The reduction of sales was also attributed to the mounting gasoline prices.

Ford Explorer was nominated as for the 2006 North American Truck of the Year award. To further enhance its potentials, 2007 models include the new Sport Trac, which has AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control as a standard feature. As an option, it will also be offering V8 engine.

Aside from the slashing of Explorer's production, Ford also announced that it will be shuttering several production facilities within the United States by 2008.
