Free Graph Paper For Bathroom Remodeling

By Steve Gee

If you are remodeling your bathroom then you need some free graph paper

Drawing a scale diagram of your bathroom isn't difficult; you might remember doing something similar at school. The trick to making life easy for yourself is to draw your plan on graph paper square or squared paper. This is nothing more than a sheet of paper with horizontal and vertical lines drawn at regular intervals but it makes things so much easier.

Yes there is software for designing your bathroom

Why does everyone seem to want software to do it all for them? People think that all they need to do is purchase a remodeling or design program for their computer and it will do the whole thing for them. Well this just isn't going to happen. There is software available and there are some very good programs too. Will it make your life easier when you remodel your small bathroom? Very unlikely.

If you are a professional bathroom remodeler then software could be a big benefit to you because it will give you a way to re use your design work and provide very smart and impressive drawings to give away to your clients. If you are just remodeling your own small bathroom I think that you would be better off doing it the old fashioned way.

Scale drawing isn't too difficult

All you have to do is accurately measure your bathroom and divide all the measurements by a suitable number so that it will fit onto the size of paper you are going to use. For instance if you have a bathroom that's 8 foot by 10 foot and you want to make the drawing fit onto a piece of graph paper that has 16 squares by 25 squares then a suitable scale would be 1 foot = 2 squares. You can then draw the outline of your bathroom as 16 squares by 20 squares.

Make Cut-outs of the bathroom fixtures and design away

This is the fun part. It's like fitting a jigsaw puzzle together but there might be more than one way to put all the pieces in. You need a few sheets of graph paper to do this with. Draw the outline of your bathroom on one sheet and the outlines of the toilet, bathtub, shower, washbasin and other accessories on another. You may need several sheets of paper to draw fixtures of different shapes and sizes to try out. Cut out the fixtures and have fun arranging them to fit on top of the outline bathroom drawing.

Get your bathroom design right the first time

You will be living with your new bathroom for a long time after the renovation so it pays to spend a lot of time on it at the design stage before the work starts. It's a lot easier to move a few cutouts around on a sheet of graph paper than it is to move a toilet once it's fixed and installed.

Draw bathroom walls and floor plans

You will need plans of the floor space looking down. You will also need plans of the walls, especially if you are planning vanity units, mirrors or cupboards.

Talk to your bathroom remodeling contractors before you finish your plans

Your contractors will be able to point out any problems you might have with your plan and suggest ways that you can adjust things to solve the problems. This is a very important part of the project and can be the difference between a smooth remodeling job and a nightmare when mistakes need to be corrected later.
