A Wise Ride to Destination

By Suraj Gupta

Car pooling in India is both convenient and a fun. Want to try?

After driving about 20 Km to reach Connaught Place past numerous intersections and stoppages at the traffic signals, the congestions and the jams, now the hassle of parking my car was putting me to my wits' end.

I knew what to expect at the parking lot…sea of cars and no room for mine. The parking attendant was no help. Finally when I could shove my machine into a nook I felt the winner at the battle for spaces.

The growing number of cars on the road of Delhi compels me to think of car-pooling or car sharing. I understand it is a smart idea but striking up an arrangement which is timed to suit your office is not an easy find. The whole process of finding a group of co-commuters of your liking appears arduous and truly speaking deters me from making even a smallest effort.

Every time I am stressed out driving or pushed around at a car park I get into the mode of finding reaching car pool information. But on occasions when it is a smooth ride on the road and into a car park the excitement of joy ride takes over the nuisance one is often subjected to.

Shuttling between the ideas of opting for share ride or not I finally decided to try out one. It so happened that the other day I got not only late for a very important meeting at my office I lost a good wad of my cash in my hurry to pay at the parking. I had decided that I would make a sincere attempt to chuck this daily private ride of mine to my office and back home.

Back home, the first thing I did was to log on to the net and look for car sharing information. To my surprise, there were so many member groups for car sharing and so much of car pool information. Look like car pooling in India was coming of age. So there were car share groups in Bangalore, in Delhi, in Mumbai, Pune, and Lucknow…the list was pretty long.

The arrangement I finally arrived at was a wise one indeed.
