Cranberry Juice To Have No Benefit For Kidney stones

Kidney stones have been around for a long time period. Evidences are there that the disease was even in the Egyptian mummies over seven millennia old have been found with kidney stones. It is not amazing to say that the kidney stones patients have increased to a great extent and are on rise. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC states that more then a million people in the United States are expected to get kidney stones this year.

The popular belief is that taking any kind of juice is helpful in the kidney stones. But the latest research points out that Cranberry juice does not have any benefit for the kidney stones patients. This research points out the uselessness of this particular juice in case of kidney stones patients.

It is really amazing to know that the Cranberry juice that is supposed to promote the urinary tract health for generations, it is now stated to be one that encourages the formation of the most common type of kidney stones.

Cranberry has a long history of being a part of our diet. It is one of only three types of fruit native to North America, cranberry was a staple food of Native Americans. When the Europeans arrived, they quickly adopted this unique food as part of their diet.

The cranberry juice is stated to increase urine levels of calcium and oxalate. Levels of brushite does decrease, but this substance causes a different type of kidney stones (known as brushite stones), which are comparatively rare.

The research has shown that cranberry juice is decreases urinary uric acid. "Cranberry juice reduces urinary pH likely by providing an acid load and decreases urinary uric acid perhaps by retarding urate synthesis," wrote the researchers.

The study does not detract from the scientific evidence supporting cranberry juice's use for urinary tract health, but it does indicate that it is not an advisable course of action for those with a tendency towards kidney stones.

Researchers from the University of Texas Southwest Medical Center decided to study the effects of cranberry juice on people susceptible to calcium oxalate kidney stones, after many reported that they consumed it in an effort to prevent a recurrence of the uncomfortable condition.
