If your a smoker, chances are you have tried to quit smoking already - and failed. I know the feeling! It takes the average person a few attempts to quit before they quit for good.

Smoking, because of nicotine, is extremely addictive and I will admit is hard to give up. But with determination and the help of this quit smoking support blog, we hope to make it a lot easier!

As the saying goes - "don't give up giving up!"

The benefits of quitting smoking are endless! Just check out some of the main ones:

-You will live a longer and healthier life

-You will dramatically reduce the chance of heart attack and strokes and cancer

-You won't be stinking of smoke all day long

-Your hair, nails and teeth will be in better condition

-You will save A LOT of money!

Did you know, according to today's prices, if you were to smoke a pack of 20 cigarettes a day for 10 years, you would be spending a whopping $36,000 per year on the habit!

Just imagine what you could do with that amount of money! You could take the family on a luxury holiday, buy a new car, renovate the house or anything else you wanted!

You need to be prepared when it comes to quit smoking. Having a good plan and sticking to it will make things a lot easier in the long run and will improve your chances of quitting.

Follow these steps to start with:

-Choose a start date to quit and tell your family and friends that date. The more people who know you are going to quit the better as they can offer support along the way

-Get ready for that date by removing all cigarettes, ash trays and anything else to do with smoking from your house. Removing all the stimuli will help to remove the temptation to smoke.

-Try to take up new things. Maybe try a new hobby or something else that may interest you such as joining a gym, karate class, cycling, clay modeling or anything. The more you keep your mind off the cig's the easier it will be to quit!

What triggers cause you to smoke?

All smokers have a particular time of the day, situation or scenario where they like to smoke. It might be with your coffee in the morning, after a meal or when your having a drink. Knowing these triggers is very important as it enables you to recognize, prepare and avoid them.

To take this a step further you should ideally create a smoking diary and note down all the times you smoke, what triggered it and how it made you feel. This will keep track of your smoking habits so you can identify when and where you smoke the most.

When you first give up you will have some cravings which can be very hard to overcome. Use the following tips to help you get over these cravings:

-Brush your teeth and think of how horrible cigarettes taste

-Go and watch a film or your favorite TV show

-Remind yourself of the benefits of quitting - healthier body, cleaner teeth, no smell

-Write a list of things you have been meaning to do - and do them!

-If your stressed, write down why your stressed on a piece of paper and then screw it up and destroy it - tear it, burn it, even eat it!

-Help other people who are quitting smoking, this makes it easier on yourself

-Try cutting a straw into small lengths and inhale clean fresh air

Whatever happens, don't give up giving up! Quitting smoking is a hard thing to do but it can be done!
