The Ultimate Super Bowl Hot Tub Party

By Terri Greene

My husband had been planning his Super Bowl party since the end of last season. He and the guys have one every year, and they always seem to have so much fun! I suspect that the obscene amount of beer they drink is a factor, but I am pretty sure they like the game too!

For one day a year, they get to act like children again. Personally, I don't see the appeal of Football. What is so exciting about watching a bunch of oversized men dressed in armor, crashing into each other as they chase a ball around a field? I don't get it. But then again, what do I know?

The details of the party were worked out well in advance. It never ceases to amaze me how much food a handful of guys can eat in an afternoon. I would have to spend the rest of the year dieting if I ate a fraction of what they do on Super Bowl Sunday. My husband always hosts the party, and he loves being on barbecue duty. It seems that the only criteria for the food that day, is that it has to be meat or must have meat in it. Again, I just don't get it!

This year's party was a little bit different, mind you. A few days before the big game, my husband asked me to follow him into the back yard. I was astounded at what I saw. He had purchased a new hot tub, from a company called Catalina Spas. This was obviously no ordinary hot tub. First of all, it was massive in size. It looked like it would hold an entire Football team! Beyond that, it had a surround system that you could actually hear and feel when in the tub.

Then he told me to close my eyes. I did it, although I was unsure that I was prepared for any more surprises. When I opened them, I could hardly believe my eyes. There was a 42 inch plasma television that had seemingly grown out of the edge of the tub! My husband stood there smiling with a remote in his hand. He sure was impressed with himself, and was going on about how much the guys would love it! I was about to ask how much he spent on it, when he tossed the remote control right into the pool. And it floated!

The party was a huge success, and the guys had an excellent time. They ate. They drank. They watched the game. And they soaked in the tub. I think their favorite team won. Who knows? I look forward to watching "Desperate Housewives" in it next week. Perhaps I'll invite some of my friends over for Martini's, gossip, and a soak in the tub? My husband will have to clean the tub before then, though. Eww! What is that floating in the corner? I don't think it's the remote……..
