The Healing Powers of Hot Tubs
By Terri Greene
It is well known that the stresses of our everyday existence can create muscle tension which can lead to headaches, fatigue, and general unease. How we feel physically can have a direct impact on how we feel emotionally and psychologically. Hot tubs have the miraculous ability to heal our aches and pains!
Hydrotherapy can help relieve the effects of stress on our bodies. Doctors and physical therapists often recommend hydrotherapy for the treatment of various ailments, including arthritis and muscular strain.
Hydrotherapy works by alleviating the body from the effects of gravity. It has the secondary effect of stimulating the nerves and circulatory system. The stimulation of nerve endings can assist the body's overall immunity to illness and disease, and can also aid in digestion.
Hydrotherapy works based upon three main principles; heat, buoyancy, and massage. The heat from the water serves to relax and soothe sore muscles, therefore encouraging relief from stress and increased circulation. Immersion in water relieves the body of approximately 90% of its weight. This, in turn, alleviates pressure on joints and creates a sense of weightlessness. The massage element is introduced through the jets in the hot tub. This jet stream can relax muscles and stimulate the release of endorphins, our body's natural pain killers.
Hydrotherapy has been used for centuries to treat disease and physical illness. It has been used in ancient Rome, China, and Japan. Back in the 4th century BC, Hippocrates, the Greek physician, recommended bathing and drinking spring water for its therapeutic qualities. The Romans built enormous communal baths because they, too, understood the benefits of soaking in water.
Although hydrotherapy is not a cure for disease, it can benefit your health in many ways. If you are looking for a relaxing way to relieve stress, you might want to consider purchasing a hot tub. Your traditional bathtub will provide many of the same benefits, but there is nothing quite like soaking in a massive hot tub with all of the jets on full. The effects are exhilarating, and your body will love you for it! If you suffer from any major illnesses or you're pregnant, please consult your doctor beforehand. About the Author Terri Greene spends much of her time soaking in her favorite hot tub.
