Slewing Rings

By rathi

In recent years many companies have increasingly started to rely on technology and one of those is the introduction of Slewing Rings to the production floor. To meet the weight requirements and to attain the ranges of motion and the bearings, which support the loads, slewing rings have become a solution to meet many such necessities. They are competent enough to uphold big axial, radial and moment loads on its own or with a compact dimensional envelope. Some slewing rings are capable of performing both oscillating and rotating movements. These types of slewing rings are functional with or without internal or external gears and come with anti-friction bearings or slewing bearings.
The appropriation of the design of the slewing ring is the most determining factor for the direction and degree of loading, specially tipping load, mounting arrangements and needs of performance. Slewing rings come in two features of simple structure and self-retainable. Out of variety of slewing rings available in the market, following is the list of option for your utility slewing ring:

" Four Point Contact Ball Slewing Ring
" Eight Point Contact Ball Slewing Ring
" Single Row Cross Roller Slewing Ring
" Two Row Roller Slewing Ring
" Three Row Roller Slewing Ring
" Inserted Raceway Slewing Ring
" Single Row Ball Slewing Ring
Slewing rings have a wide range of application in industrial as well as commercial sectors. These are some of the examples of slewing rings applications:
" Used in equipments that handle mining and materials.
" Used in industrial and automotive applications.
" Used in equipments of excavators, log loaders, digger derricks, drilling, aerial platforms and power shovels.
" Used in cranes, industrial robots, off-shore equipment
" Used also for wind generators; lift truck rotators and medical nuclear cameras. .
" Used in military applications.

The specifications of slewing rings play an essential and assisting role while we choose them.
" Outside diameter represents the outer diameter or length of the straight line passing through the center of the slewing ring to its outside end point
" Inside or bore diameter inner diameter of the slewing ring
" Width the overall width of the slewing ring
" Static axial or thrust load the full load applied along the axis of the slewing ring
" Static radial load the maximum load applied in all directions to the slewing ring.
" Moment load represents the maximum dynamic load applied to the slewing ring depending on the application

Slewing Machines come with the advantage of reduced amount of maintenance time and an easy mounting. But while choosing slewing rings, you must check the structure of your machine. Between internal gear and external gear decide which one suits to your requirement and then select the appropriate model for estimated loads. According to the type of machine choose the loading line for the light work or heavy work.
Due to their range of advantages, now slewing rings are not just for heavy-section applications. Developed and improved manufacturing process and design concepts are sanctioning their use in increasingly small, complicated, and precise applications.
