Talking digital
By Florie Lyn Masarate
Everything is going “digital” nowadays. There’s the radio, the theater and then the computer. Everything and everyone is going digital today. Makes one wonder if it is here to stay.
The past. Let us analyze this in terms of comparison. In the olden times, painting takes brushes, watercolors and canvases. Pictures were perfected by professionals who took their time studying and perfecting their craft. Music is for the musicians, who took time getting the lyrics in their mind and putting it in print. And designs articulately done, with the right touches and shades to achieve good results.
Now, digital in printing. No more brushes and paints, software are now able to create the perfect painting with the touch the click of the mouse and innovative program tools. Throwaway pictures can now be made perfect, using only the computer, to make it look like a professionally taken photo. Would-be musicians can make music using the computer. And designs are enhanced by state-of-the-art equipments to produce one of its kind. This is the world today.
With the computers now so fast and reliable, any task is as easy as child’s play. Digital is quick and efficient. When before, people had to get their hands dirty, make a number of mistakes and use precious time, now it’s the opposite. With computers, as many repetition of mistakes as one can possibly make, it does not matter. Corrections can be done instantly. Tasks are like divided into different aids more capable than any human can be. Chemicals that are needed before are now disposed of. No more use for any additional thing as long as you have your computer and brand-new programs and software.
Colors are made less or more colorful depending on the tastes of a person without having to repeat the work all over again. The color red is not anymore a color red today. It can be made into lighter or deeper shades, with styles and shadows and outlines.
This is the digital edge. All the impossible are made possible. People are now capable of doing things that only had been dreams before but made into reality by modern innovations. Even children are now capable of things that only adults can do just by knowing how to use a computer.
So what if paintings before are longer lasting than the ones we can make today? At least it didn’t take too much time and equipments to create it. Just the screen and the keyboard, and a digital mind.
