More Vehicles Using Renewable Fuel to Be Produced by American Auto Manufacturers

By Stacey Wilson

At present, most automotive companies which are purely American in nature are producing vehicles that are good performers yet are efficient when it comes to fuel. Primarily, this is simply because the market is clamoring for vehicles that use gas to its full extent because of the high price of fuel.

Just recently, these American automobile creators – Daimler Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors – have joined forces and created plans for their future vehicles. In fact, this is considered to be the largest increase in production and the largest commitment to enhance the capacity of vehicles using renewable fuels. They had also announced to the public that they would be doubling their production of their respective line of vehicles. However, they are intending to focus more on those vehicles that could run on renewable fuels. Come 2010, these companies foresee that they would be able to produce around two million cars and trucks combined that all run on renewable fuels. These companies are targeting vehicles that could run on E85 ethanol as well as biodiesel.

As part of this campaign and commitment towards providing the automobile market with vehicles that could run on renewable fuels, the big three has sent a letter to all the Members of Congress. The letter was signed by Tom La Sorda, who signed for the Chrysler Group and is also the company's president and CEO; Bill Ford, who signed for the Ford Motor Company and is also the chairman and CEO of the company; as well as Rick Wagoner, who put down his name for General Motors and is currently the chairman and CEO of the company.

These heads mentioned in their letter, "We need business and government to work together to enhance the production, distribution and use of renewable biofuels. Our hope is that with this commitment, fuel providers will have even more incentive to produce ethanol and other biofuels and install pumps to distribute them."
