The Rising Popularity of Platform Beds

Platform beds are becoming more and more popular and commonly favored by young people in cities and college dormitories. Platform beds are a good way to maximize space, especially if your floor area is very limited. Most platform beds include storage boxes beneath the platform the further maximize space. Perhaps the greatest advantage of platform beds is that they are often constructed very simply. Even those with modest construction skills can manage to build a platform bed.
If you are interested in creating your own platform bed, you need to get sturdy materials together. Wood, plywood, deck screws, carriage bolts, nuts, washers, wood plugs, finishing nails, lag bolts and lock washers are often used in building such beds. The number and size of the materials depend on the size of the platform bed that you will be making.
You should keep the following in mind when building your platform bed.
First, check out the room. Plot the space that the platform bed will occupy and make allowances for the rest of the furniture in the room. Now get accurate measurements of the space where you plan to put your bed. Visit different hardware stores and acquire the needed materials before you start on your project. Make sure you shop around for the best possible deals.
Second, in building your platform bed, make sure that you will be able to get standard-sized mattresses for it. Before you start cutting through the wood that you have purchased to build your bed frame, make sure that you have made allowances for your mattresses. It would be unwise to have a large frame for your platform bed when your mattress is a lot smaller, or have too small a bed frame that causes the mattress to spill out at the sides.
