Above the Ground Pool - the Right Choice

By Ethan Bailey

With summer fast approaching, many families will be making the decision to finally get the pool they have been dreaming about for so many years. While you have the choice of getting an above the ground pool or an in-ground pool many families choose the above ground pool.

One of the most common reasons most families decide to go with an above ground pool is the cost is considerably less expensive. While cost is a definite consideration there are other factors to take into account before making your final decision. Below are some tips and thoughts to consider:

1. It is very important to first find out the rules, and restrictions in your county if any. Additionally, if you live in an area that has a home owners association it is best to find out their own rules and regulations as well before deciding on an above ground pool. While you usually won’t need a building permit in most areas for an above the ground pool, there may be standards you must follow - it is best to contact them directly.

2. Next we suggest you do price comparisons on the different types of above ground pools. We strongly suggest getting a few different quotes; don’t just settle on the first pool company you contact.

3. Along with being more cost efficient, above ground pools are set up quicker and easier. Another plus to consider, along with easier set up, you can take the pool down during winter season or should you move to another home - you can take your above ground pool it with you!

4. Above ground pools come in many different shapes and sizes - from small inflatable pools you can buy at a department store to outlandish pools that you can build a deck around. How much money you want to spend and what type of pool you have in mind are two main factors in your decision making process.

5. While we realize you are most likely trying to keep the costs of getting an above the ground pool down, we suggest finding out how much it would cost to get someone to do the installation for you. It might be quicker and easier for an experienced pool person to make sure your pool is installed properly and stably.

6. Lastly, check with your homeowners insurance and find out if any accidents are covered should you have a friend or family member over swimming in your pool. It is always better to be safe then sorry!

These are just a few important factors to consider when deciding if an above ground pool is the right choice for you and your family this summer season. Most importantly, be sure to put a fence up around the pool and never leave a child in the water unattended!
