The visitor does not have to make the purchase straight away, most programs offer 30 - 90 day cookie duration. How this happens as long as the cookie is in the visitors cache you will still receive your set amount of profit from the sale if the visitor makes a purchase.
Notes about choosing programs pick the ones that you truly believe in, that you will feel comfortable recommending. Sometimes it is better to purchase that product yourself that way you can really promote it because you know how it works and make a real issue on the benefits and state the fact you have purchased it yourself.
