Make Your House A Kid Friendly Home

By Lyn Leckie-Matassa

Need to make your house kid friendly and dont know where to start or what to do or just cant afford to get someone in to assess your house? Don't worry you can do this yourself and at half the cost most of the time.

When babies or children are coming into your house it can be a scary thought as to what they might get into that would or could be harmful to them. This is worry that you dont really need especially if you are bringing home a brand new baby you will be busy enough looking after your new addition so the sooner you get started the sooner you will get finished.

The best thing about home safety is alot of the things required to make your home safe dont have to come from expensive baby stores or even Target they can be mostly purchased at some of the cheap store like neds emporium and cheap as chips.

Firstly get down on your hands and knees and start crawling around on the floor in your home this is the best way you are going to see what is unsafe for a crawling child remember to look in all the unusual places you wouldnt think to look into as an adult because children will. Children are explorers they always like to know what everything is and what it does. They always like to use things for not there intended purposes also.Have a note pad with you and make a list of things you will to make things safe like power point plugs etc. Another thing that is very important is to look around the baby's cot/crib to see what the dangers there might be once the baby can stand such as vertical blind cords, low hanging shelves etc. A cheap alternative to redesigning your nursery might be to store soft toys that are safe for baby to grab on the low hanging shelf making sure baby cant pull the shelf onto of themself and get the vertical blind cord and tie it in a high knot out of babies reach or you can place a high hook on the window and wrap the blind cord around it this is a major danger hazard as many children have accidentally hung themselves by these cords.

If you stick to the principle of whatever you think they wont get into they probably will you will quite easliy be able to make your home baby and kid friendly.
