Kihei Offers The Best of The Best

By Caitlin Moore

Many people, locals and visitors alike, consider Maui to be the shining star among Hawaii's stellar lineup of delightful vacation-worthy islands. It has everything from rain forests to white sandy beaches, and enough activities to keep you going morning, noon and night. If you're planning to kiss the mainland goodbye and embrace island life for a while, consider not only coming to Maui, but to its attractive southern shore. Kihei offers the best of the best, and you'd be wise to set its swath of stunning shoreline in your sights.

Kihei definitely qualifies as a relaxed town, and will have you feeling lighter and happier within minutes of your arrival. The spring in your step can probably be attributed to the gorgeous scenery and fresh ocean breeze, and believe that there's more where that came from. Once you've settled into your amazing accommodations (more on that later) you'll step outside to a whole new world, a world where stress, anxiety and tension just don't fit into the picture.

There are diversions everywhere you turn in Maui; for example while you're here you'll have the opportunity to explore Haleakala National Park. If you're feeling up to it, hike the trail that leads you around the dormant volcano, taking in the lunar-like landscape. Head to more lush terrain by engaging in a coastline horseback ride, or explore the rainforests by foot to sample all the spectacular flora and fauna.

If you'd prefer to focus on Kihei (not that the other stuff is too far away) you'll be able to get your beach activity fix with no problem. Experience all the sun and sand you've been dying for without stepping foot into a car by checking out the options that are close by. A rafting adventure would be sure to get your motor running, the Hawaiian brand of water sport that will reveal secret coves, hidden caves, and an underwater world of fish, coral and other exotic marine life. Maui is also known for providing privileged views of humpback whale migrations, so if you're here during the winter, prepare to see these amazing creatures in all their immense-yet-graceful glory.

Makena Golf Courses will have you happily putting the day away before a backdrop of distracting beauty. Your game may improve because you're so relaxed and carefree, or it may suffer because you can't stop looking out at the sea or over at the fragrant rolling hills in the distance. Either way, you won't really care because you didn't exactly come here to train for the next big Open or anything.

Yet to be mentioned are Kihei's fabulous beaches. The three Kamaole beach parks are pristine, fun-filled areas where picnics and volleyball games are as common a sight as sunbathers and surf-frolickers. Just down the road you'll find Wailea Beach and Makena, equally appealing but sometimes a little more crowded, so if you crave peace and quiet try straying from the resort areas.

Which brings us to the issue of lodging. Hotels, many lovely ones, are sprinkled throughout Maui and are abundant in Kihei. However, another common sight is the vacation rental, and literally hundreds are located in this region. Unique properties, many equipped with comfortable lanais, views of the beach, spacious kitchens and all the bedrooms you need to keep the members of your group close but not too close, often make for the best way to fully recharge your batteries in a place like Kihei. You'll be close to all the island activities yet able to retreat to your own cozy space whenever the mood strikes, an asset that will prove priceless to the overall quality of your trip.

If you want to learn more about Kihei Vacation Rentals and the Hawaiian hotspot known as Kihei, then go online and ooh and ahh over all the pretty pictures and inside scoops you'll have access to. There's no shortage of evidence that many a person has had a satisfying vacation in the south of Maui, and you could very well be the next.
