Put yourself on "Speed Dial" with One Web Number

By Laurence Cooney

Since the telecommunications boom, "keeping in touch" has gotten easier…but also more complicated. Aside from the standard business line and business address, you probably have a mobile phone, fax number, emails (both a personal one and the company's), and a website. This has yet to include residential contact numbers—or instances when you have multiple office numbers such as trunklines, extensions, and direct lines.

This is too much information for anyone to remember, especially in situations when you've run out of business cards or left them at home. For example, you run into a high school acquaintance at the supermarket, or you stumble on an unexpected networking opportunity at a friend's wedding. Opportunities don't always come at convenient times, and scribbling what you think is your business number on a paper napkin doesn't look very professional.

Then there's the confusion caused whenever you change jobs or move to another city. All the networking you did for years, lost because people no longer know where to find you. "I'm sorry, but he's no longer connected to the company…" Aaah, there goes what could've been your biggest client.

These problems are solved by registering with It's my Web Number, a unique website that contains all your contact information. Instead of memorizing several numbers, you only have to remember one—your It's my Web Number account.
People can go to this site, enter it, and find all your current information on screen.

You can update your information at any time, so if people discover that you've moved to another job or changed your mobile number, they can get the correct number immediately.

"We created this service because we knew how hard it was for people to stay in touch," says Laurence Cooney, who operates It's my Web Number. "Decades ago, people lived in the same town and worked for the same company until they retired. Today, it's possible for someone to quit their job after just one year, and relocate to another city on the other side of the country in search of a better one."

During such transitions, the last thing anyone wants to think about is calling up everyone on their Rolodex one by one. You're too busy packing, too caught up in adjusting to a new company or moving to a new home.

Sometimes, the change in contact information is accidental—you lose your mobile phone or PDA, and with it, all the numbers in your address book. You can't contact them even if you wanted to. "Through It's My Web Number, you know that people will be able to find you."

Entrepreneurs or even companies can also open an It's my Web Number accounts, with options of giving contact information for every department, or listing multiple business addresses in different countries. By including your account number on all your business cards, you can actually save on printing costs since you don't have to reprint a new set each time your numbers change. Clients will also have a more complete set of contact information. Just by checking your It's my Web Number account, they'll see how to get in touch with your Accounting Department, or how to reach you when you're in the UK office.

So whatever happens, they've got your number.
