Acapulco Vacation Rentals

By Caitlin Moore

Some vacation destinations are tricky; their supreme beauty and friendly atmospheres make them perfect for vacationing, as everyone and else and their mother, brother, and dog has also figured out. Crowds are no fun, but there's a reason the place is crowded; what to do? If you have your heart set on a place like Acapulco, a place that is fun, breathtaking, and a magnet for tourists, do things right by reserving a vacation rental. You'll be able to see the magnificent sights without feeling like a lemming thanks to your private, one-of-a-kind accommodations.

Acapulco is one of those spring break destinations that gets the college kids itching to party like there's no tomorrow. Any time of the year would be beautiful for a visit, however, as Southwestern Mexico is known for fine, steady weather. So if you're planning to avoid the height of all the debauchery, you'll be fine. Acapulco exists in a bay, making it privileged to enjoy relatively calm water most of the time. Basically, the beaches are as welcoming as an old friend, so prepare to reacquaint yourself with relaxation during your stay.

There are many fabulous stretches of beach along Acapulco's main drag of hotels, shops, and restaurants, but if you really want to milk this vacation for all it's worth, reserve a rental property that can truly be described as ocean side. Several places exist just off the beaten path, and being able to rise every morning (from a cocoon of 400 thread count sheets, by the way) and take a jog along the crashing surf or a dip in the salty sea will really do your spirit good.

After walking back to your hardly-humble abode, rinse off in the outdoor shower and then fix yourself a snack in your handy, modern kitchen. Relish the fact that you don't have to check your email (although you are hooked up here) and take secret delight in ignoring the world's daily news. All that will be there when you get back, so for now you're justified in concentrating on recharging your tired batteries.

You'll surely want to take in some of Acapulco's famed sites, like the old Cathedral in Zocalo, the town square, the Pie de la Cuesta, a tranquil lagoon, and certainly the La Quebrada Cliff Divers, who have been inciting awe for decades by making stunning leaps into the shallow waters and dangerous tides that exist at the bottom of the craggy sea cliffs. Tour the region with the best of them, soaking in all that Acapulco is known for and judging for yourself if the hype is justified.

Water parks, golf courses, fishing, and bird watching will keep you busy for a while, as will a visit to a fruit farm where you can pick a few mangoes or almonds. Rent a boat, go for a walk, or book a spa day; anything you do will be colored by the perky perspective that will come from breathing the fresh air and feeling far, far, away from the rest of the world. In other words, what's already sweet will feel even sweeter thanks to your buoyant mood.

All of this leisurely activity will certainly cause you to work up an appetite. From Italian to American to, of course, Mexican, you'll find an array of dining establishments to try out. Many are pretty cheap and some make a point of seating diners by the sea or facing the intense sunsets, so time your mealtimes accordingly. And as you would expect, nightlife in Acapulco isn't too shabby. Tour the clubs and find your rhythm, because you might just end up dancing the night away. Even if you visit in the winter, the spirit of spring breakers will guide you on your merry way and prompt you to forget all inhibitions.

After these fun-filled days and nights, it will be joy to return to your condo. Here, you and your companions will be able to unwind in peace, stretching out and sleeping in if the urge strikes. Sit in the hot tub, have an impromptu cocktail hour on the lanai, play a game of cards, or grab a book from the shelf and head for the nearest beach chair. The choices are endless and the atmosphere is relaxed, just what you've been looking for, right?

Never mind that millions of people come to Acapulco every year. Only a few are smart enough to do things right. By skipping the hotel experience and staying a few steps away from the hordes of hedonists, you'll feel like the only one in the world with any sense. Start planning this trip now to find the best pick from all the Acapulco vacation rentals and enjoy the thought that you'll soon be duping the system by making a popular place your very own secret hideaway.
