Visiting Prague

Prague has became one of the world's most popular tourist places. There are gorgeous murals to look at and wonderful architecture in this magical city. The art that you will find in Prague is mind blowing. You will find everything from Art Nouveau to Baroque, Renaissance, Cubist, Gothic, Neo-Classical and the ultra-modern just to anme a few.

There are several sights you might want to see while your in Prague. Some of these are Old Town Square, The Astronomical Clock, The Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, Josefov, The Lennon Wall, Vinohrady, and Nove Mesto. To list a few more, these would be, Wenceslas Square, National Museum, Vysehrad castle, Petrinska rozhledna, Zizkov Television Tower, The New Jewish Cemetery, The Dancing House, and The Metronome. The Prague Zoo is also something you may want to visit. It came to be in 1931. This zoo has about 4,600 animals, and 630 different species from all over the world.

There are also some tours you may want to go on while your in Prague. The Prague Private Guides is a VIP tour. Authorized Guides of Prague these are tourist guides that provide private sightseeing tours in different languages. They will find a tour fitting your needs. Prague Travel Ltd organises several daily walking tours, in different themes with an English speaking guide. Martin Tours offer a range of regular tours, these include walking, bus driven, or on riverboats. Citywalks ofer numerous small group city tours. They use foot, or other forms of transport, like riverboats and micro-scooters. You can get private individual tours or group tours.

There are also some cruises you might want to go on while in Prague. River cruises are a very popular with visitors. You can get one hour cruises or a whole evening cruise with dinner and music. Cruise Prague has a wide range of regular or private cruises.

You will get hungry while in Prague, so you might want to try some of their food. Lunch is their main meal in Prague. The typical main course will have pork or beef. Fish isn't as popular, but it can be found. Some side dishes they have are fries and dumplings. Some of the desserts are fruit dumplings, crepes, and ice cream. The restaraunts can get crowded, so make reservations or go early. There are several street vendors that serve hot dogs and mulled wine if that's what your looking for. A few restaurants you might want to check out are El Centro, U Jednoho Pokoje, and Radost.

There are many Pubs around Prague, they are an important part of the local Prague culture. If you see a green sign at a restaurant, it means they have excellent Czech beer. Most pubs do not have a big variety of beer. Tourists often pay double for beer then the locals, that is their tourist trap. In Prague they like you to sit with a big group of people, so just ask if you can sit with others if there isn't an empty table available. A few places you might check out are U Fleku, U Zlateho Tygra, Reduta Jazz Club, Agharta Jazz Club, and Al Capone's Coctail Bar.

There are many places to buy things if you would like to buy any souveniers or other items. At Christmas time, there are lots of Christmas markets that sell all types of arts, craft, foods, drinks, and Prague souveniers. Around Old Town there are lots of tourist shops, they sell Bohemian crystals, soccer shirts, and other items. The Charles Bridge has some good vendors that have some nice souvenirs. Paintings and photos are very popular items.

Be aware of the taxi drivers. Make sure they use the meter, and make sure it don't stop. They tend to overcharge the tourists, so get a receipt, or you can refuse payment. Also, keep track of your stuff, there are pickpocket gangs, be alert. It's a nice and safe place, but you should always be aware.

Take advantage of the country's inter-city buses and trains. They are frequent and cheap, they can get you almost anywhere. The drivers know a little english. So, don't hesitate to buy a ticket just because you don't know their language.

There are some other places you might want to go to while your visiting Prague. Kutna Hora is one of them, it is a creepy church that is decorated with the remains of human skeletons. Novosedly is another one where you can take a horseback trip through the vineyards of Moravia. Pisek is a pretty South Bohemian town with the country's oldest bridge. Vyssi Brod is a nice three day canoe trip, that starts in the Sumava mountains, that you might want to try out. Vysocina is a great mountain area that is for the hikers to go hiking. Beroun is a small pretty city on the way to Plzen. You might want to check out the Karlstejn castle and holy cave monastery is a hiking trip to this very famous castle. Lastly, Konopiste is the Archduke Franz Ferdinand's Castle that you can go see.
