Saturn Unveils the 2007 Sky Roadster Mapping their Next Generation Lineup of Vehicles and Parts
By Jenny McLane
With splendid body curves, superior interior, and race car performance, the all-new 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster captures the attention of guests in different auto show in America.
First seen in 2002 at the Chicago Auto Show as a concept car, the new vehicle includes new fender peaks, a wide posture with short overhang over the 18-inch wheels. The hood gives superior accessibility and sporty attitude. Projector halogen low beams and reflector optic halogen high beam headlamps further accents the look of the Sky. With its convertible, easy to fold feature, the Sky Roadster looks like the next generation Mazda, BMW, Audi, and Viper combined. “The Sky’s exterior conveys a sense of technical harmony, combining taut, controlled lines with fluid surfaces to create a dynamic feeling,” said Ed Welburn, Vice President of Design for GM North America. “The vehicle’s strong front end is the new face of Saturn, with a pronounced fender peak and a bold, chrome bar that carries an integrated Saturn badge.”
The stylish body is complimented by the two-seat cockpit in a piano black and chrome finishes with leather seats. Integrated controls and displays correspond to the image of the sports car.
Under the hood lies the power of the 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster. It is equipped with a 2.4L, 170-horsepower Ecotec engine with variable valve timing that is connection to the five-speed Aisin manual transmission with a short throw shifter with an option to automatic transmission.
Other highlights include: four-wheel independent short/long arm suspension for optimal handling and stability, coil-over Bilstein monotube shocks for excellent wheel control and road isolation, hydraulically assisted rack- and-pinion power steering for quick, responsive vehicle control, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS for excellent stopping performance, wide track width for excellent stability and superior handling, near 50/50 weight distribution for balanced handling feel, structural tunnel design and hydroformed longitudinal rails for a stiff body that results in greater vehicle responsiveness and better overall feel, and hydraulic engine mounts for a smoother engine feel.
Production of the 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster is set in 2006 at GM’s Wilmington, Delaware, assembly facility and is expected to cost less than $25,000. Much the production less than a year to go, we shall see the 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster to hit the road soon.
