Chevrolet Produces their Fastest, Most Powerful Corvette with top-notch Corvette Parts; the 2006 Cor
By Jenny McLane
As Corvette C5-R Racing Team celebrates their most successful year in Corvette’s 50-year racing history by winning every single race they entered in 2004, another celebration were also made with the release of the fastest, most powerful Corvette ever made by Chevrolet, or even the American Motors for that matter, the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette ZO6.
The new Corvette ZO6 debuted in Chicago Auto Show in February 2005. The all-new Corvette was rated the best in Corvette of all time with its amazing 427-cubic-inch engine that was a re-entry and was already used in Corvette Racing Vehicles at Daytona in the 60s. The Gen IV, V-8 is hand built at General Motors performance building center in Wixom. The V-8 is an LS7, 7.0 liter 427 cubic inch, 500 horsepower at 6,200 rpm that can give the Chevy to go up to 190 mph. With its superb power, the Corvette ZO6 can go from 0-60 in under 4 second. The 500 horsepower machine at 6200 rpm can have a peak torque of 475 pound-feet at 4800 rpm.
This V-8, also known as the LS7, is based on what the GM calls as Gen IV, the latest incarnation of the small-block architecture. Unlike the former 427, which has a big-block design, this new engine is a small-block V-8. To achieve this, every component has been reengineered to the greater displacement and higher output.
The LS7 shares the same architecture with that of the Gen IV V-8 as the Corvette’s 6.0L LS2. The only difference is that the LS7 uses a different cylinder block casting with pressed-in steel cylinder liners to accommodate the engine’s wide.
The New Corvette ZO6’s powertrain and drivetrain systems correspond to the LS7’s power and capability. The four-into-one headers discharge in to new, close-coupled catalytic converters and through to new “bi-modal” mufflers, which feature a vacuum-actuated outlet valve that controls the exhaust noise at low-load operation and opens for maximum power.
As a racing car, the Corvette ZO6’s exterior are shaped to achieve the best aerodynamic design that contributes to its stability during high speed and cornering. An elevated spoiler provides the necessary down force that balances vehicle perfectly.
