Creative ways to obtain links

By Nestler

Although very little is constant in the way that Search Engines rate the value of web sites at this point in time; search engines continue to place importance on link popularity. In fact, Google recently confirmed this when they made public the contents of their filing with the United States Patent Office.

So, whatever your feelings about the soundness of link popularity in determining the quality of a website (and its SE positioning), acquiring quality in-bound links is essential for the success of your Search Engine Optimization campaign.

So what are some of the ways to acquire quality, relevant, in-bound links that will announce to the world, and particularly to the major Search Engines, that yours is a site that is well worth looking at?

Before we get into that, let's step back a little and consider exactly why you are trying to impress the Search Engines. Most of you would probably say that it's to improve your positioning – possibly even to get listed in Page 1 for an important keyword, or to obtain a higher Page Rank from Google.

These goals are the means to an end; because what we really want is more traffic to our site and, more importantly more sales.

So before even starting your SEO campaign, it is essential that your web site is complete, that it has good content and that it is easy for your visitors to do what you would like them to do – buy your products or services, donate to your favorite charity or simply opt-in to your list. Many successful internet entrepreneurs consider list building to be the only worthwhile reason for a web site – the selling is done by follow up auto responders.

OK, now back to the various ways to acquire links – and these are my favorites because each is a pro-active approach, unlike waiting for someone to respond to a reciprocal link suggestion.

1 Write interesting, relevant articles with a link back to your site and post them to the many high quality article aggregator sites such as www.a1articles.com
2 Allow others to publish your articles as long as they do not change the content or the links.
3 Subscribe to relevant forums and bulletin boards with a link in your Signature paragraph back to your site.
4 Purchase relevant, high quality links from link experts and brokers
5 Make your website content so compelling that other sites refer their clients to you – or offer something for free - for instance to download a free e-book.
