Remembering the Eagle Talon

By Jenny McLane

The Eagle Talon is one of the best selling vehicles under the Eagle brand, a brand developed by the Chrysler vehicle manufacturer so as to compete with Japanese imports in the late 1980s. It is a sports car and perhaps due to this, it has outsold the rest of its siblings. However, production for this vehicle halted entirely come 1998 when the Eagle brand was altogether discontinued. In the aftermarket, this vehicle has totally been popular for it has a very potent 4g63 turbocharged engine with four inline cylinders. This engine is the very same one used by the Mitsubishi Evolution and it has very much the capacity and capability to produce over 400 hp on stock internals.

The Eagle Talon was among the three model names bestowed on a sports car. This vehicle was manufactured and sold by Chrysler and Mitsubishi. In truth, it was also part of a collaborative project known as the Diamond Star Motors, or DSM, that all happened between the years 1990 and 1998. It has been said that the Eagle Talon were very much like the Mitsubishi Eclipse and the Plymouth Laser. The truth behind that was, these three vehicles were all part of that collaborative project DSM. They were all built on the same platform. They all held mechanically identical engines, transmission systems, and drivetrains. In fact even the option levels for each were the same. However, there were differences of course, excluding the brand and the names themselves. But then again, the changes were mostly limited to the wheels, the availability of colors, and the minor trim pieces. So as to know if it is an Eagle Talon or not, look for its two-tone body color. It has a 'greenhouse' look which meant that it looked black no matter what color the body said it held.

Basically, the Eagle Talon has two doors. It is a hatchback and has two front seats and two marginal fold down rear seats. It has four option levels which comprise of the DL, the ESi, the TSi, and the TSi AWD. Available is a front wheel drive and given as an option is an all wheel drive. Also made available is a five speed manual and a four speed automatic transmission.

A great and secure way to maintain a vehicle is through installing and using only excellent quality parts. These parts could be purchased from reputable auto parts stores. In the past, however, looking for trusted auto parts stores took a lot of time and effort. Fortunately though, the World Wide Web makes shopping for parts a whole deal easier. There are dozens of sites that offer auto parts and Eagle parts. But a buyer must always be cautious when choosing where to buy Eagle Talon parts and other Eagle parts and accessories. It is best if they stick with a trusted and reputable auto parts store like Auto Parts Online.
