I love London! To me, it is the best city and the world and I know what I am talking about because I'm a keen traveller.
Some people may not agree with me but living and studying in London has its advantages. Well maybe not for the weather but definitely for being exposed and updated to the latest styles and fashions. It is a cosmopolitan city, with its multitude of fantastic and bilingual restaurants catering to all, showing just how diverse London is. There are many tourists as well as long stay students from all nationalities including Chinese, Japanese, Indian, American, etc.I just loved the cocktail of it all. Studying in London gives you, a broader experience of life in the subject you are following, with its rich heritage of Gothic Museums and traditional art galleries to provide you with many design ideas and ever-changing exhibitions and fashion shows to inspire your mind.
The Clothing Industry in Britain is ranked amongst the top three industries for employing the most number of people and for the multi-million pound turnover it generates each year. (Boy! I could do with some of that). The fashions of Britain are known to be a source of inspiration for designers all over the world. Certain well-established foreign designers make regular trips to London and the other larger UK cities to see exactly how the youngsters on the street have put together their original style of dress.London is seen as the place where Fashion is at the cutting edge, where ideas start and events happen. Well-established Fashion Designers are visiting London for inspiration, and it can be seen at the clubs and out on the street as well as in the stores. There are so many levels and quality of fashion to be seen, from the Haute Couture boutiques in Knightsbridge to the market stalls in Camden.
For students studying Fashion at University, the advantages in London are many. Looking at fashion in a different context, by comparing the life and culture that influences fashion design, is a valuable addition to your studies, and by the time you have completed your course, you will be much better equipped to deal with the international market that is Fashion.I wish you well if you are entering the world of Fashion and know that you will never get bored with the infinite variety of ideas that are just waiting to be turned into Fashion.
