Rent Advertisements in a Young Entrepreneur's Room
By Patrick Hankinson
For so long, internet advertising has seemed to be in a slump for
creativity. It's always been the same old types and sizes whether
it's banners, or cost-per-click advertisements. But now a new more
creative advertising has emerged.
A young entrepreneur from Nova Scotia, Canada has promised that he
would place advertisements in his bedroom to help him raise enough
money so he could start his own business, without going through the
hassle of taking out loans and finding investors.
The website, http://www.richpixels.com/, shows his room constantly
being updated with the new advertisements. The unique twist of this
type of advertising is anyone who physically enters his room can see
all the advertisements, as well as visit the website online and view
the advertisements online via the pictures of his room.
But this type of innovative advertisements has been seen before, and
very recent, such as Alex Tew, a 21-year-old student from Wiltshire,
England, who developed The MillionDollarHomepage.com to raise funds
for his university education. Tew launched the site on August 26,
2005. Within three days of the launch, with no marketing budget, Tew
sold his first 20 x 20 pixel block. Motivated, he put out a press
release. Two weeks later, he had made enough money to pay for his
first year at university. He has now made more than three-quarters of
a million dollars.
Patrick Hankinson, the owner of http://www.RichPixels.com, credits
Alex Tew for his innovative room advertising service. According to
his website, "In the beginning I was going to start a website similar
to Alex Tew's Million Dollar Homepage,
http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com/, after seeing how successful it
was. I actually had the website built and was about to officially go
live, and showed it to a few people. They criticized it for being too
similar to Alex's website, so I stared at my wall and said what can I
do to make it different? Then I said to myself man, my walls are
bare, I should buy a poster or something. My two ideas had collided
with each other in bringing you the first ever website to sell
advertising space inside a bedroom!"
But like most other teenagers he does have one mention in terms and
conditions. "I also can't guarantee my room to always been clean, so
bare with me" About the Author Patrick Hankinson is a 17-year old entrepreneur trying to raise enough money to start his own company by renting out advertisements in his bedroom, which is constantly updated at http://www.richpixels.com/
