Microsoft Business Portal and Great Plains development - commentaries from Great Plains consultant

By Andrew Karasev

Microsoft Business Portal was long time a mystical application, which was supposed to enable web interface for such products as Microsoft Business Solutions Great Plains. It was relatively difficult in installation, so if you were end user you were probably in need of Microsoft Business Solutions consultant/VAR/Reseller help to install Microsoft Business Portal. We also had technical issues in installing it for our customers, who were on version 7.5 of Microsoft Great Plains.

Now with version 8.0 things seem to be changing, and Business Portal is now real web interface for Microsoft Great Plains.

We'll be following up with technical article on Microsoft Business Portal for Great Plains version 8.0

In this short article we would like to reassure our prospects and customers in Microsoft Business Portal long time waited workability.

Microsoft Business Portal is using the following technologies:
• Microsoft Dashboard
• Microsoft Great Plains (as the back end)
• Microsoft SQL Server (as Great Plains database)
• Microsoft Web technologies - IIS, XML web services, etc.

If you are Microsoft Great Plains Developer you nee to know your options to modify Great Plains from Dexterity interface and database side. To repeat multiple postings - Microsoft Great Plains is written on Great Plains Software (now legacy) Dexterity programming language and integrated development environment. If you are planning to customize Great Plains from database integration side - you should consider direct Microsoft SQL Server Transact SQL programming - create your own custom stored procedures or scripts. Refer to the table structure in Tools->Resource Description->Tables, then select desired series and sort by table group technical name.

Microsoft Great Plains Dexterity development requires special proprietary training - or old-good-days programming experience. Please do not stake on newcomers to do Dexterity software development and customization.

Happy implementing, customizing and modifying! You can always appeal to us to help you with your system. Give as a call 1-630-961-5918 or 1-866-528-0577, help@albaspectrum.com
