Software Discounts

By Joe Cohen

Custom made software can be very expensive. With so many vendors to choose from, it will be well worth your while to shop around before making a software purchase. These days, the Internet provides the perfect shopping venue for finding just the right software you need at a price you can afford. And because the Internet marketplace is so competitive, you can find very good prices by taking the time to do a little shopping.

Vendors offer discounts on software oftentimes. The most popular type of vendor discount is the educational discount. With this discount vendors sell name-brand software products at greatly-reduced prices to university students and educators. They know that in the long run it will pay off for them as these students will become educated in the products and use those products throughout their careers. But there are also vendors that offer discounts other than just educational ones. Do you want to find some real impressive discounts on antivirus software? Check out Downloads32.com under the "Discounts" tab (http://www.downloads32.com/discounts.htm). There are some great discounts there on name brand antivirus packages such as Kapersky Anti-Virus.

Some vendors offer discounts through the use of promotional codes on coupons. One computer superstore offers rebate coupons after you purchase your software. The coupons are placed in a common area of the store and you pick the coupon, mail it in, and wait for the rebate provided you have purchased the product. Software vendors who offer discounts on the Internet do it via means of a discount offer or promotional code that you enter when you purchase the product in their shopping cart on their web site. By doing a little Google searching you can find many software vendors publishing their discount promotional codes for software. And if you are entering a discount promotional code into a website when purchasing their software, make sure it is reflected when paying on checkout from the shopping cart.

EBay.com is a great place to find software at greatly-reduced prices. For example, one EBay buyer bought Windows XP Home Edition which ranges in price from $79 to $100 US for $45 US plus $7 US shipping. The CD was of course a used CD but in very good condition with all of the packing documentation. Buying used software CDs is a relatively safe bargain in that CDs can take a lot of abuse before being rendered unusable.

One important point to consider when contemplating the purchase of a software product: always see if you can exercise a "try before you buy" option on the product. Many vendors offering downloadable trial ware give a 30-day or in some cases a 90-day right to use license so that you can be absolutely certain that this would be the product you want to buy. Considering this, it would really be most unwise to just purchase a product without trying it out first. You wouldn't purchase an automobile without doing a test drive and the same should hold true for the software you are buying. Also understand that you need to fully test the software to confirm that it will meet your requirements. If it is not what you are looking for then there is no loss and you have not spent any money.

A little persistence and patience when shopping for software will do well for you and pay off in mentionable savings.
