Bayliner Discovery Journeys
By Brian Matakis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., (October 10, 2006) - Bayliner Discovery is captivating boating enthusiasts and nature lovers alike on www.iamdiscovery.com, the website that showcases noted journalists at the helm of Bayliner's new Discovery line of runabouts, cuddys and cruisers. "This is the place where people fall in love with boating all over again - or for the first time," said Matt Guilford, Marketing Director for US Marine, Bayliner's parent company. "The site opens like an outdoor movie screen and uses video, photographic and narrative travelogues to immerse you in the possibilities of boating."
The website invites visitors to "join us for a string of boating adventures at all points of the compass - excursions where the mix of people, places, weather and wildlife transform trips into journeys." And they don't disappoint. Bayliner also launched a companion video platform, www.iamdiscoveryvideo.com, where Web users can view video trailers of each journey, post them on their blog or vlog, share them with friends and sign up for a RSS feed and future updates from Bayliner Discovery.
On www.iamdiscovery.com, a nautical compass transports visitors to the first Bayliner Discovery journey, one where Motor Boating Magazine's Managing Editor John Wooldridge and his buddy Ken Nicholson challenge a new Bayliner Discovery 246 Cruiser in the Pacific chop from San Diego to Catalina Island and on through Channel Islands National Park to Santa Barbara. Along the way, the two men kayak near sea caves, embark on a dusty buffalo safari and Wooldridge even gets a trim at Lolo's Plaza Barber Shop, a local institution in Avalon. Their three-day odyssey unfolds in three video webisodes, a written travel journal, and gorgeous still photography. Wooldridge, who said that he jumped at the chance to test the Bayliner Discovery 246 Cruiser, found the craft up to the challenge of six-foot breakers and open ocean.
While boating enthusiasts are reveling in Wooldridge's adventures, Bayliner Discovery is powering up another memorable journey. "Right now, National Geographic writer and world-class kayaker Jon Bowermaster is cruising stretches of the Maine Island Trail in a Bayliner Discovery 288 Cruiser," said Guilford. "This best-in-class, two-level mini-yacht is perfect to navigate the stunning inlets and craggy coastline."
Bowermaster and longtime neighbor, Bruce Alter, are traveling from Portland to Bar Harbor, Maine, listening to the haunting call of the loons, seeking out lobster shacks and lighthouses, and exploring Acadia National Park by boat, kayak and on foot. Guilford said that Bowermaster's journey will appear on www.iamdiscovery.com later this fall, and had a note of envy in his voice when he concluded, "Bowermaster is seeing the New England coast from the best vantage point there is - a Bayliner Discovery boat."
