Handy PPC Tips

By Sammer Hakim

Pay-per-Click is an economical way to attract qualified traffic to your site. Here are some tips to consider when embarking on your next PPC campaign:

·Try Before You Bid: Most PPC service providers have a place where you can search for certain keywords/phrases before you bid on them. The search engines usually show results for any particular keyword for the previous month.

It's very tempting to bid on terms that scored very high one month but a word of advice: patience. In fact, it's advisable to gather this information over several months first from the main search engines before you bid.

The reason for this is some keywords are extremely popular some months and not as popular other months like seasonal/festive times. You want to avoid keywords that give your PPC a roller-coaster ride.

· Stay Focused: Don't get lured into bidding on every single product you carry. Doing so in PPC will get very expensive!

Instead, your aim is to draw visitors to your link and have them click through to your site where they can be automatically directed to any product/service you offer.

Make sure your site is easy to navigate as most customers don't have the time to explore dozens of sites before making a buying decision.

· Avoid Bid Wars: Unless you have a huge advertising budget or superior conversion rates, avoid high bids. Remember, you will pay for it each time somebody clicks on your site, even by mistake! A safer option is to track down lower cost but relevant keywords.

·Outsmart via Stealth: Walt Disney is famous for saying "Go look at what everybody else is doing, then go and do the complete opposite".

This statement rings true to an extent for PPC. PPC search engines show each advertisers bid amount for certain positions. Your aim is to slide between the top and bottom bids because you still get a solid page position without driving up the cost per click.

Don't fight for either position! So if one advertiser pays $0.30 for position number one and another advertiser pays $0.17 for two, you can slip into third position for just $0.16! This is well worth a try.

·The Copy, The Copy, The Copy: The best piece of advice we can give to any website owner is to use a professional copywriter. Don't try and write your website promotion ads yourself. Professional copywriters specialize in writing words that make people want your products and services.

You have seconds to capture a prospects attention. If you don't they're gone for good.

·Bidding on Irrelevant Keywords = Cyber Suicide: Considering you are paying for every click-thru to your site, it's sheer lunacy to bid on keywords that have nothing to do with what you're offering. Your PPC bills will keep coming in but your sales won't.

·How are You doing? : PPC services offer easy to read reports which show you how your campaign is doing. Pay very close attention to the reports! If it's consistently giving you dismal results, evaluate why. If you are getting many click thru's but no sales, then it's probably your copy that's turning prospects away.

PPC specialists can usually tell with a brief glance over a PPC report exactly where and why your campaign is not performing. It's wise to run it past them and get their feedback how you can improve your campaign. Otherwise you have to be on 24 hour watch and make constant adjustments to your PPC campaign.
