Where to find the best mobile phone deals

By Richard Green

Sales calls can be infuriating at the best of times, but more and more often these days your mobile phone will ring only for someone on the other end of the line to offer you a new phone, complete with a new contract with X amount of free minutes and texts each month. If you happen to listen to the sales person, which is justifiably unlikely, the offers available sound too good to be true, if indeed a little obtrusive. If this is added to the endless TV, radio, print media and billboard advertisements that we are all presented with on a daily basis it is hard for the consumer to know just exactly where to find the best mobile phone deals.

Although the major networks have retained a certain level of market dominance, the evolution of the marketplace has led to intense competition on tariffs and the networks now rely on diversification within packages and contracts to differentiate themselves and appeal to the consumer. In a market which has reached maturity and saturation within a few short years, this has led to a falling price and increased service for the average mobile phone user. The increased options and constant media reminders of the latest deals and offers actually make it hard for the customer to know where to find the best mobile phone deals.

As with any major purchase, doing a bit of research can stand you in good stead. Although it is easy to switch off from the constant media 'noise' surrounding mobile phone offers, listening out for these at the time of your contract renewal could help you save a few pounds over the forthcoming year. It may be torturous to sit through a sales blurb when you are trying to have civilised pub conversation with your friends, but getting a rough idea of the latest offers from the various advertisements informs you of what is out there.

For the more intrepid researchers the web is the place to look for the latest and best mobile phone deals. Online comparisons are relatively abundant and straightforward, allowing you to search and compare the products on offer and their respective prices. This type of search can arm you with enough information to make the right decision when the time comes to get yourself a better mobile phone deal. Similarly review sites allow you to research information on the networks, handsets, technologies and tariffs on offer. This type of direct feedback from other consumers can provide a valuable insight into exactly what you are about to get yourself into, stripping away the hyperbole of the advertisements and sales calls.
