Cabo Roig – The Costa Blanca's Jewel

One of the best known sights in Cabo Roig is the 16th century watchtower around which Cabo Roig primarily grew. The watchtower was one of many built along this coast to look out for approaching Berber pirates who frequently attacked villages along the coastline. The watchtower now looks down on the recently renovated marina with its 200 plus moorings.

There are a number of excellent beaches to visit whilst on a trip to Cabo Roig. The main beaches are Cala Caleta and Cala Capitan both very popular with holidaymakers. Also within easy reach are the beaches at Campoamor, La Zenia and Playa Flamenca. All of these beaches are kept very clean and are usually raked every day, they are also safe for children.

Whilst on a trip to Cabo Roig do not miss the cliff walk to La Zenia, this walk takes you along the back of Cala Caleta beach, above the marina and onwards to Cala Capitan and then to La Zenia beach. This is a very enjoyable walk and offers some exceptional views of the surrounding coastline, don't forget to take your camera or you will miss some great photo opportunities. You will spot La Manga in the distance and on a clear day you can pick out the towering apartment blocks of this up and coming resort.

Cabo Roig the whole of the Costa Blanca, enjoys a wonderful climate and it is claimed to be the most temperate region in the whole of Spain. The area enjoys well over 300 days of sun each year and has an average temperature of approximately 20 degrees centigrade. There is very little rainfall in Cabo Roig and what does fall occurs mostly during the winter months (mostly in November and February). For those who don't like it too hot, May and October are perhaps the most pleasant months to visit, sun worshippers will hit the beaches of Cabo Roig in July and August and "bake" in temperatures that can reach 40 degrees centigrade.

After a day in the sun most visitors head for the bustling Cabo Roig strip with its ever increasing selection of bars and restaurants offering food, fun and frolics to suit every taste. There are some excellent restaurants providing dishes from around the world including Spanish, Italian, Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Hungarian, German, English and Irish.

There is lots to do in and around Cabo Roig, why not start with a trip into the nearby town of Torrevieja, with it's wonderful promenade and marina and it's many fine beaches? If you are visiting during the summer months, don't forget the Aqua Splash park with its gigantic slides and excellent picnic area. If you feel a little more adventurous you may wish to try out the go-karts at Punta Prima, here you can drive the full size karts or the kids can have a go on the mini karts or even the mini quads. In the summer the circus comes to town and this is a great attraction for the children and adults alike, being an old style circus, it has plenty of animals performing tricks to amaze and entertain. The younger at heart may enjoy a trip to the busy resort of Benidorm, a journey of around an hour and a half (a coach picks up in Cabo Roig a couple of times a week). Sporting enthusiasts may partake of the golfing, the water sports (the water sport resort of La Manga is only a 40 minute trip), or the fishing – there are angling safaris available for those preferring fresh water angling.

There you have it – Cabo Roig, "the jewel of the Costa Blanca", the seaside resort with something for everybody. Be sure to visit sometime soon.

Cabo Roig is in an ideal location close to the AP-7 motorway and within an easy drive of both Alicante and Murcia airports. If coming from Alicante get off at junction 763 (La Zenia), if coming from Murcia get off at junction 768 (Dehesa de Campoamor). You will find Cabo Roig on the N-332 coast road.
