How to install an under-the-sink water filter

Installing a water filter can be very important, especially in those cases where water has more chlorine or minerals than we might wish, or when we simply want to make sure of having as pure as possible water. In order to start installing an under-the-sink water filter you will have to make sure you know which the cold water line is. If you are uncertain of which one this line is, you can easily find out by turning the hot water on and waiting a while until its line is hot; then you will know for sure which the cold water pipe is.

Once you have identified which line corresponds to the cold water you are ready to start with the installation. Put the bracket for the water filter in place and with a pencil mark where the screws will go. You should have in mind that the bottom side of the water filter should be at least at a distance of 3" from the bottom of the cabinet or floor.

Next, you should place the filter into the bracket and find out which are the locations in the filter where water would flow in and out. After this, turn the cold water valve off before you continue since you will have to cut a section of the line. If you are not sure about how to do this or any other step of this procedure by yourself, you should ask a professional for help.

From here on, you should follow the instructions of your specific filter and which should be provided by your manufacturer. Most filters are installed the same way, but despite of this, there might be some differences on how to install one filter and other, and therefore you should follow in detail the instructions provided by the manufacturer of the specific product you are installing.
