New Report Finds Many Supermarket Shoppers Not Warned About Mercury in Seafood


Mercury in fish is now recognized as a major health threat, especially for children, but surveys show that only about two-thirds of the public know which fish are high in mercury. The EPA and FDA issued a joint advisory in 2004, warning women of childbearing age, expecting and nursing mothers and young children to not eat swordfish, shark, king mackerel and tilefish and to limit their consumption of albacore tuna and tuna steaks due to high mercury levels.
