Fuel Cell Cars Approved For Zero-Emission Push

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) makes it easy for the auto manufacturers to meet the target of zero-emission by vehicles. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) makes it easy for the auto manufacturers to meet the target of zero-emission by vehicles.

On Dec 23, 2006, officials of EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in Washington & ten other states cleared the path for automobile manufacturers for producing hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles so that zero-emission requirement can be met.

In 2003, the California Air Resources Board gave its approval to certain amendments. The EPA adopted these approved and amended regulations, which allow carmakers to make fuel cell vehicles as an alternative to the battery-powered vehicles & light trucks formerly used by the state.

Similar rules have been put into force by 10 other US states including- Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Maine, Oregon, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Washington and Vermont.

A lot of uncertainty surrounds fuel-cell vehicles & that the company agrees with the forecast of US Energy Department that predicts the number of fuel-cell vehicles wouldn't be large until 2015.

Officials of California who brawled for the deals painted a fine picture, making a note of the point that the waiver also includes hybrid & super-low-polluting, gasoline-powered vehicles called partial zero-emission vehicles.

California officials anticipate credits made by the auto companies by manufacturing zero-emission cars before the year 2009 to seal the remaining 2% need through the program's earlier years.

According to RNCOS report on Fuel Cell Technology, fuel cells will work as efficient petroleum alternatives in near future. The use of fuel cell vehicles will reduce the global dependency on petroleum. For example, if just 20% of cars used fuel cells, U.S. can reduce oil imports by 1.5 million barrels everyday.
