The drug propecia is a prescription hair loss medication designed mainly for men with mild to moderate hair loss. The effects of hair loss and propecia were studied in several clinical trials, and propecia was found to be better than a placebo.

The main purpose of Propecia is to halt hair loss and maintain what hair coverage is left. It is therefore popular with younger men who want to control hair loss at an early stage. Men of all ages use it in combination with minoxidil to achieve a hair loss strategy that both halts hair loss and encourages new growth.

Scientist has recently discovered that men who suffer from male pattern hair loss have an increased level of a substance called DHT in their scalps. Both PROPECIA and its generic form block the formation of DHT and in this way appears to interrupt a key factor in the development of male pattern hair loss in men.

Propecia works by treating an underlying cause of male pattern hair loss by inhibiting the production of DHT, which is believed to be a major cause of hair loss. The enzyme Type II 5-alpha-reductase is involved in the production of DHT. Propecia inhibits the action of Type II 5-alpha-reductase, thereby decreasing DHT concentrations in treated men by approximately 60 percent.

This medication is available in the strength of 1mg. With regular usage of Propecia, you can see visible re-growth within a span of three months. In case, you discontinue the Propecia medication, the effective would recede over a period of 12 months. You should not make use of Propecia if you are allergic to finasteride or any of the constituents of Propecia medication.

Like all prescription drugs, Generic Propecia may cause side effects. In clinical studies, side effects from Generic Propecia were uncommon and did not affect most men. A very small number of men experienced certain sexual side effects, such as: less desire for sex; difficulty in achieving an erection; and a decrease in the amount of semen. Propecia acts on a fundamental basis of hair loss by considerably minimizing the amount of DHT (Dihydrotestosterone).
