Jump-start your sales: The easy way to squeeze more cash out of your website.

By Beverly Johnson

You want sales, so you think you need traffic. So, you join the auto surf programs and post your brains out at advertising message boards and freebie sites (posting your free catalog or samples) ...Here is why that is never going to make you one sale...

Because you are targeting the wrong audience...

You need actual buyers... that is: people who want what you are selling; have the ability to pay now; can make up their own minds to make a purchase today-without consulting their spouse; and can easily find you.

You need targeted, interested prospects...

Generally speaking, message boards are for chat, non-business messages and idea exchange.

And if you do find one that allows advertising, just understand that you are advertising to other advertisers, who desperately hope that you will buy their products and then go away.

It's just a bunch of advertisers spamming each other.

Instead use these boards as an opportunity to show off your smarts and good sense of humor and then include a link in your signature line to your blog or your website where the reader can see more info on the businesses you are into.

Use them to network and uncover resources and leads. But, don't be disappointed if none of this results in sales.

And, auto-surf programs aren't much better in generating qualified, ready to buy customers, either. They just eat up your valuable bandwidth...and many free-hoster websites won't allow you to use them...again, just a bunch of advertisers spamming each other.

And, the last thing you want are freebie seekers...so avoid the freebie sites if possible...some people make it their life to surf the Interent and gobble up freebies and samples

They are not really ever interested in buying...and no matter how pretty your site, or how many times you lower your prices...they won't put any money out. Nothing you will say can ever convince them of it.

They will take your sample or catalog and leave you stranded.

Offering freebies is never the solution.
Contests may be a better alternative, but most of the people entering, are still looking for something free.

Here are better ways you can target your advertising message to people who will really be interested in putting out money for your products:

1.) Get listed in as many low-cost relevant directories as possible...preferably directories that deal with your subject or opportunity; i.e. work at home business opportunities, or beauty directories, child care directories, franchise directories etc.

These directories are usually visited by people who are interested in finding a convenient, one stop shop for information and resources on the subject of their choice, i.e. work at home ideas, etc.. Be sure they find you!

2.) Write articles about the subject of your site or product

Then submit them to article directories like: http://www.articlecity.com
and
http://www.articles.simplysearch4it.com

You don't even have to be a professional writer to publish your work; just write what you know about your topic and always proof-read, whittle your text to get rid of unnecessary parts; and add an author's resource box with a few lines about your opportunity or product and your web-site link.

Your articles could end up being reprinted on hundreds of sites on the Internet.

Not only will you receive a valuable link pointing toward your site every time a web-site owner uses your article on their site, (Google loves that!) you'll also receive traffic directly from people who read the article.

3.) See if you can get a good mention, review or link on another person's high traffic blog...

My recipe web-site, showed up on Yahoo (page 2 for a popular recipe term) just two days after it was mentioned on another work at home executives blog as a useful resource.

Now, that is effortless marketing.

4.) You could also switch to selling directly from your blog, instead of a web-site...(just put up your product photos, pay-pal button, etc.) so that you would be able to get listed in the hundreds of free and low-cost blog directories on the Internet...

Just a few to get you started.

One more thing...be sure to update your blog often, even daily...

I heard a rumor that Google owns Blogger.com and they send their search engine spiders to index the site on a regular basis looking for fresh content for their listings--that is recently updated blogs.

If you have a blog there, and post often, you are sure to get noticed.

Of course, there are more ways to target your customers for more sales; like building an email newsletter and sending out a regular ezine (absolutely essential!) ..these are just a few of the things that have always worked for me. Be open to the possibilities and start putting the squeeze on your site...it may just turn it into the money generating cash cow, you've always dreamed of.
