Does Tupac Know About This?

By Nancy Grugeneim

RATING: A

Machiavelli Hangman is the latest independent film to break into the box-office as the next big thing after Napoleon Dynamite, Open Water, Saw and Primer. It seems that films made on a low-budget have more of a chance these days to hit it big if the story excels expectations and satisfies. The film is based on the writings of Nicollo Machiavelli and it is by far, the most satisfying film of the year, and perhaps, depending on the day, one of the most brilliantly realized motion pictures in the last decade.

Nicollo Machiavelli said it takes 7 days to create a believable buzz for your own death. That's right, you heard it correctly. Your own death. In the 16th century, the famous politician would help his friends fake their own deaths to escape their enemies.

In fact, people still do it today and many believe that this is exactly what happened with Tupac Shakur. If you go back and check the information surrounding his death, you will keep crossing the number seven.

Here are just a few examples that will get you thinking:

He was shot on Monday and he died exactly seven days later. How does someone stay in the coma for seven days and then suddenly die?
From the time of his death to the release of his next album, the producers waited 7 months.
In the album following his death, there was no mention of the artist's death. The only thing referring to him was "Exit Tupac, enter Makavelli."
Tupac was 25 when he was killed. 2 and 5 equals 7.
He was shot at exactly 4:03am. 4 and 3 equals 7.

There are many other facts that have lead many of his fans to wonder where or not he really is dead. Machiavelli Hangman explores the myths and unbelievable facts that the American public is not aware of. It offers an explanation about death in the same eye-opening manner that Super Size Me did about fast food.

It is one of those films that you watch and it blows your mind because you realize how much information there is out there that the government is hiding from you. Machiavelli Hangman should not be confused for a documentary because it is as fictional as Hollywood films get, but just like The Da Vinci Code, it incorporates historical facts in a fiction context. That's what makes the film so powerful.

While audiences may go in expecting a story that revolves around Tupac, they would be disappointed to realize that it is set in 1982 (for an amazing reason) and the rapper had not yet come into prominence at that point. The film deals with death and regardless of how mysterious it may seem to most of us, it stares at us everday and we know more about it than we are aware.
