Home Security Basics By David Johnson
When it comes to securing your home you must start with the perimeter and the possible points of entry. Look at your home as if you were an intruder to locate possible points of entry.
The perimeter includes the yard and exterior lights. It is important that all trees and bushes that are located near your home be kept neatly trimmed so that they can't cover an intruder. Homes without a fence or gate make entry much easier as well as ladders and other tools left on your lawn.
It is also wise to leave a light on in your home when you are away for substantial periods of time. Homes that are left in complete darkness all night will be attracting and hiding unwanted intruders. Shed light on illegal activity and protect yourself by leaving a light or two on.
You will need to secure the points of entry on your home beginning with the doors and windows including the second or third story windows and balcony doors. Windows or doors that are left in bad shape are easy targets for intruders to get in and out of your home quickly.
Even if you have great locks and security systems on your home but you fail to use them you are leaving you and your family in great risk. Stress to your family the extreme important of using locks and security systems properly to achieve the maximum safety possible. Believe it or not almost ninety percent of illegal entries happen through a front or back door.
Make it a habit to lock all doors and windows of your home even if you are only going out for a few hours. It can take less than ten minutes for a skilled thief to break in to your home and steal your valued items and personal information.
The home security system industry is growing making it competitive. Your family's lifestyle is important when it comes to determining how much home security is needed for your property. Home security is common among home owners, often choosing the right option is a difficult task. It is hard to determine how much protection you need without over paying.
Home security can be in the form of a security camera as well. You can post a security monitoring camera out side of your home so you can keep a clear visual when you are inside or a record if you are away. You can also post a security camera near your front door so that you can see who is at your door before opening it, or even coming down stairs for that matter.
Having a security camera or a set of them installed strategically around your property can be a great convenience in a number of ways. If you have nice cars or items on your property such as tools you can use constant video surveillance that can be digitally recorded in case of the event of a loss or theft. As long as you have homeowners, renters, or auto insurance on the items that were stolen or damaged you can get reimbursed for the property. About the Author Written by David Johnson.
