Fans Club for Bird Watchers

By France Yeo

Three are many different ways that you can go about building your bird
house. If you want your kids to have some input, it is important for the
design to remain simple. The first thing you need to do when identifying
birds is to learn how to recognise a certain group of birds like warblers,
flycatchers, hawks, owls and wrens. These all share certain similarities. As
you get better at this you will be able to distinguish a certain species from
the group as a whole.

And there it is! You're now more informed about bird cages than 99% of
the shoppers out there trying to decide which one to get.

The #1 thing to watch for is a cage that is sturdy, but can be broken
down in a matter of 2 minutes or less, without the need for any tools. All
of the top brand name bird cages have this feature.

You may find that perhaps only a few species actually inhabit that
particular area. With a little preparation, you will be able to more readily
identify bird species from each other. Keep a list of successfully viewed
species ¨C we¡¯ll call this tip number two and a half.

Fans Club for Birds

Birds are such lovely creatures that people cannot help but enjoy
watching them. This is the very reason for the establishment of various
bird watcher clubs around the world. These clubs aim to bring together
people from all nations to appreciate and learn more about birds.

Membership to most of these clubs is usually for free. By signing up with
any of them, you get invitations to various activities that they organize
each year. You also gain more access to researches and other information
about birds.

One of these bird watcher clubs is called the New Haven Bird Club. Every
year this club hosts an international birding event that is non-competitive.
This event has recently been called the "Big Sit"; which observes a certain
bird every year that is referred to as the ¡°golden bird¡±. People from all
parts of the world are invited to participate and it is for free.

The event is very simple. You just have to look for a nice spot for
birdwatching - like one with a great view of the various habitats and
dwelling places of birds. Then, together with the other participants, you
make a huge circle - whether real or imaginary - and sit within it for 24
hours. You have to count all the birds species that you heard or saw
within that 24 hour time period.

If you desire the look of antiques without the price tag, reproductions are
also available. Replica antique bird cages often maintain the look and style
of the original, but at a fraction of the cost. Feel a little unsure? Take
some time to learn about the different kinds of birds that might be
suitable pets for you and your family.

The materials needed to make your own hummingbird feeder are clear
prescription vials with a fitted cap, a few feet of thin wire or heavy thread
and transparent tape or scotch tape.

The top two ways to give your bird stimulation on a daily basis are: toy
hooks & playtops. There's no need to explain why toy hooks are
stimulating, they just are! Practice Before You Go. A key to viewing
wildlife, and especially birds, is to have the ability to very quickly put your
binoculars on target.

Such a simple concept encourages many to participate. It does not take
much effort and, in fact, most who have tried participating before find it
very relaxing. It is a nice break from busy day-to-day living.

Although the activity is non-competitive, participants have the
opportunity to win something. The circle with the highest count wins the
Big Sit ¡°Braggin¡¯¡± rights. What is most targeted though is the prize for the
circle that first finds the ¡°golden bird¡± of the year. These types of fun
activities are very common for bird watcher clubs. There are also fund
raising campaigns from time to time which are necessary to sustain their
causes. The Big Sit activity, for one, is considered by other clubs as a
great opportunity to raise funds and promote their activities.

How do bird watchers strive to entice birds to their yards? Find out at
http://www.bird-watch.info Around the world, you will not have a hard
time finding a bird watcher club to join as there are indeed many of them.
The New Haven Bird Club is just one among the many. What is important
is that when you do join one, you believe in their cause and are willing to
do everything to care for the birds.

Okay, most people are not informed enough to make a good decision
when buying a bird cage. That's really not good, because if you're buying
a good quality cage it isn't going to be cheap, and if you are paying a
decent amount of money, you need to get the best product you can get
for that money!

If you're looking at a quality cage it will be constructed of steel (powder-
coated ones should have steel underneath the powder-coat and stainless
steel cages need to be 100% stainless steel, not plated or hollow) or iron.
Bird watching is a fantastic hobby suitable for individuals of all ages.
Department stores and discount stores sometimes offer sales on bird
cages. Check the advertising section of your local newspaper.

Bar spacing is also important because inappropriate bar spacing can result
in injury to your bird. Avoid cages with fancy scroll work or intricate
designs, and beware of doors, latches and other cage parts that could
trap your bird. Keep in mind that birds need bird baths year round,
especially in some parts of the country that seem to be out of the grip of
Jack Frost. Instead of putting your bird bath inside during the winter,
purchase a model that can remain outdoors for the entire year.
