Got A Stain? Carpet Cleaning Equipment

By Christopher Smith

If you have little ones you understand the incredible value that goes along with having the proper rug cleaning equipment. Of course there are always situations in which you aren't exactly certain which carpet and rug cleaning device to use. A good rule of thumb is to first address the stain and then plan your line of attack. For the most part, the smaller the stain the smaller the proper piece of equipment will be.

Home Cures for Little Stains

A quick look at most steam cleaning equipment will show a series of small attachments. The sole purpose of these tools is to spot clean and should be used accordingly in order to get out the smaller stains from your carpet.

Another factor to consider is how recent the spot you are cleaning is. Fresh spills are easiest to clean and should be blotted in order to remove the moisture before anything else is done. The quicker your blot, the less likely your stain will have time to set in. A word of caution however, excessive blotting can actually cause more damage to the fibers of your carpet rather than the deep cleaning benefit most people assume.

If you feel you need a little something in order to get a sufficient clean you should keep a supply of baking soda, vinegar, and rubbing alcohol on hand for spot removal of stubborn carpet stains. Also be sure to keep plenty of paper towels and a spray bottle on hand for these occasions. Amazingly enough, rug cleaning tools can be anything from paper towels to much more expensive commercial grade carpet and rug cleaning machines.

If you have spilt red wine, club soda usually will do the trick.

Has a portion of your favorite burger just fallen on your carpet and rug ? Brake cleaner does a quick job of removing those stains. Just a small dab on a clean cloth, blot the stain, and rinse with soap and water. Did you know that brake cleaner has the same chemicals professional dry cleaners use to clean stains in clothing? Whatever you do,do not pour it directly onto the carpet. It may dissolve the adhesive holding your carpet fibers together.

Wax on your carpet can be a challenge. Not impossible, but tough. If you freeze the wax with ice,and chip off what you can with the blunt side of a kitchen knife. Wax will need heat to be removed. However, some newer carpets are very sensitive to heat and will scorch more easily. Test a small part of your carpet first. Set your iron to a low to medium heat setting. The lower the heat, the better the chance of not scorching your carpet. Now use a white paper towel or paper bag with no writing on it (you don't want the dye to transfer from the bag to the carpet). Put the towel down on top of the wax and iron the towel for no longer than 2 seconds. Usually once will do the trick.

You do not need to be intimidated by the task of finding the appropriate rug cleaning device. Remember that it is only a stain and there is something out there that can properly address and assist in the removal of that stain. Knowing what the stain is,the age of the stain, and the size of the stain can help you narrow down the appropriate equipment quickly in order to address the stain problem as soon as you are made aware of it.
