They rejected my work

By M.Farouk Radwan

Sometimes you find that everyone around is opposing you, that people are rejecting you, rejecting your ideas, putting you down or even questioning the possibility of your dreams.

What a hard moment that you're facing. You may even start to question your own abilities or your dreams, the dreams that you once believed in, the dreams that you were fighting for. You may feel depressed, you may stop trying or even start to believe that you were wrong and then give up.

I call this period the big test. It's the period where you test the strength of your beliefs, the period where you have to decide whether you really deserve to succeed or not, and whether people's opinions are right. It's the period where your decision may either add another crack to your self-confidence, or awaken your challenging spirit. The period where you decide to hold on to your dreams as strong as you can, or forget about them and give up.

Don't think that you are the only one who has been in that situation. Many people were there, but unfortunately most of them were fooled - they thought that the problem was with them - and gave up their dreams. Only a few continued to the end, and those few discovered that it was the right decision, the following are examples of some of those few:

Japanese electronic products were perceived by the whole world as low quality products.people used to say things like: "I wasn't amazed to find it faulty, it's Japanese" . Now look at the Japanese products and see what they have achieved. Mary Higgins was rejected for more than 30 times before she published her first story which sold millions of copies. John Creasy writings were rejected more than 700 times before he sold 300 stories!! Dr Suess's writings were rejected more than twenty times before his book's profits reached 100 million. Abraham Lincoln failed at starting his own business. Four years later his wife died, one year later he had a breakdown and had to stay in bed for six months, a few years later he was defeated at the congress elections, then three years later he was defeated again. Seven years later he was defeated at the senate elections, three years later he was defeated again at the senate elections. Then two years later he won the elections and became the president of the united states.

What's the point of all this? The only point is that those people believed in their selves, anyone of them could have thought that he doesn't deserve success and then gave up midway, but then, his name was not going to be in this article.

What about you? Maybe you are the next John Creasy or even the next Lincoln, so why give up when you're rejected once or twice? You must build your own idea about yourself, your work and your skills, so that when people start rejecting you (when the time of the big test comes), you would continue moving on. And know that, gold is always buried under the ground with people stepping on this ground and not caring to look for it. But when someone finds it by coincidence, they may kill each other to get it, or even start a war for it. Trust your abilities, be persistent. Life only remembers the strong.
