The Latest Stuttering Advice And Stuttering Therapy

Stuttering or stammering as it is sometimes is called, is a disability which can have a hugely negative impact on a persons life. I know from personal experience just how negative this impact can be, as I developed a stutter when I was four years of age. This speech impediment then continued to ruin my life for the next eighteen years. Years ago when my parents were looking at finding a cure for my stutter, there were not that many options available, however in the present day there is a lot more hope and treatments to help people to stop stuttering.
The types of treatment that I attended when I was young was basically the traditional speech therapy. This therapy was normally on a one-to-one basis which is what I prefer. The problem is mainly that the sessions were far too short as they only lasted for about one hour. I also did not really have full confidence in the actual speech therapists themselves, in their ability to be able to help me or even to understand what I was going through. How could they in reality as they had never actually had a stuttering or stammering problem?
I also attended group forms of speech therapy. I have to say that I used to dread going to these group events and meeting other people who had a stammer, looking back I am not totally sure why I hated it so much but I did. The benefit of this therapy was lets say not a lot for someone like myself as I found it very easy to hide in these group situations and to hardly actually participate at all. Some would say that I was not exactly determined to achieve fluency at this stage given my bad attitude, but this was not the case at all, I just had no confidence in what I was being advised.
Nowadays therapy for stuttering has improved no end and just by searching in google under the terms of stuttering advice, stuttering treatments or stuttering therapy, will provide many different types of help for people who have a stutter.
