Growing a profitable home based internet business has some big disadvantages for many who want to develop a business online that will provide a more than comfortable source of income.
What are these disadvantages?
1. You first have to do some research into the product you are planning to market. You must discover if there is a large enough market for your product to make it profitable, and a competition level that is low enough to allow you to compete.
2. You must assemble all the necessary product related information for your website, graphics, feeds, content, payment system, etc. This will vary from site to site depending on it's focus.
3. You need to plan, design and build a website that is appealing to customers and is also search engine friendly.
4. Once your internet business website is complete, you will need to buy a domain name. This will cost the large sum of about ten dollars per year.
5. Next there is the need for hosting your website. Hosting provides the space where your internet business resides. This will cost from five dollars and up per month depending on your needs and how serious you are about developing a successful business online.
6. Once all the previous issues have been handled you need to get down to business. It is time to promote your business. This will need to be a daily activity at least until your home based internet business is established and bringing in a good profit.
You will need to employ many methods to get your site noticed by the search engines and bring traffic. You will need to get links by submitting to directories, exchanging with other websites, writing articles, posting in forums, passing out business cards, using signature files and more. These are the free methods.
You can also use PPC to bring traffic to your new internet business, or pay to advertise on other websites.
These are just a few of the duties you will perform in order to run a successful home based internet business. There are more.
If you use all the free methods mentioned, it will cost about 20 to 25 dollars a month to run your online business.
But if you are one of the many I mentioned who see business online as a disadvantage, then you will probably want to take out a small business loan, clean out savings or borrow from relatives and open a business downtown.
Make some inquiries about the cost. There are some franchises still available for as little as 90 thousand. You can also talk to your local banking officer and get some estimates on the cost of setting up a traditional business and maintaining it for the first year.
How much work is there in a brick and mortar business? Make a list of some of the tasks and time involved on a daily basis.
For the rest who don't see major disadvantages to building a home based internet business, I say go for it! 2007 should prove to be a good year for growing profitable online businesses.
